An Avco Embassy Ptctura Prepare for trip to Kansas, Lawrence campus confusing By BOB CHANEY Jayhawks can fly, but most Aggies will be driving to Lawrence, Kansas this weekend. Be prepared as it is a rather extended but not altogether impossible trek. To get there the best thing to do is get on Highway 6 and go to Waco. Once you’ve gotten that far the rest of the trip is easy, just get on 1-35 to Topeka, Kansas. From Topeka it’s only 25 miles on 1-70 to Lawrence, Kansas. Once there, you’ll find that most of the motels are the same — so-so. The best two choices for conveni ence are the Holiday Inn at 23rd and Iowa Streets and the Travelodge- Lawrence at 801 Iowa Street. One other so-so place to stay is the Ramada Inn at 2222 W. 6th — that’s at the intersection of 1-70, High ways 59 and 40 and the Kansas Turnpike. Most of the action takes place in Topeka and Kansas City — 25 and 40 miles down 1-70 to the west and east respectively. The University of Kansas campus is located on the mountain to the west of Highway 59 — that’s Mt. Oread in case you’re interested. Sophomore Joe Samford, who had inherited the starting role after veteran Tommy Ingram suffered a broken hand two weeks ago, missed the workout with a pulled hamstring muscle and Coach Darrell Royal said Samford was very doubtful for Saturday’s game.
