Page 12 THE BATTALION WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 2, 1974 Falls in consolation game By MARY RUSSO Staff Sports Writer The women softballers will meet Sam Houston State University at Bryan’s Haswell Park at 7, tonight. Coming off the Texas Women’s University Invitational tournament last weekend, the women are work ing on their big weakness, errors. The women went into the 14-team tourney with high hopes of showing their talents. The first game found the women sluggish until the top of the third inning. At this point things started happening, with the girls starting to put it to gether. The final score of the very offen sively played game was Texas A&I 14, A&M 13. This put the team in the consola tion bracket against North Texas State. Playing a better mental game, the women took the defen sive attack and took the game in the bottom of the sixth with A&M 5, NTS 4. Winning this game put the women in contention for the conso lation trophy. A&M faced Lamar University in this game. At the bottom of the fifth, the teams were tied at four runs. Lamar came to bat making a run. The A&M players lost their “cool,” A&M made a series of errors allowing Lamar to make three runs at the top of the sixth. A&M was unable to make a run in the sixth and through another set of errors allowed Lamar four more runs. Lamar took the consolation bracket with an 11-4 victory over A&M. The women will face the rest of their zone, Baylor and Mary Hardin-Baylor, in Waco, Friday. The top two teams from each of the seven zones will compete in the state meet at Stephen F. Austin University, Oct. 18 and 19. SUPER M 00 SALE!
