Pag-e 2 THE BATTALION WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 1974 General fund up proposed $117,000 READ BATTALION CLASSIFIEDS LAKE VIEW CLUB (Continued from page 1) The total budget for general hind expenditures is up $117,000 over last year in this proposed list. This represents an increase of 19 per cent. UTILITY FUNDS Total utility revenues are ex pected to increase 15 percent. Most of the $350,000 rise can be ac counted for by increased water and electric sales. These are both results of the rapid growth of College Sta tion according to City Manager Bardell. Operation expenditures are up $300,000 over the fiscal 74 budget. Most of the increase is due to the negotiation of a new contract with Bryan for the purchase of electricity and water. The new contract calls for a 13 percent increase in the price Bryan charges College Station. A $10,000 increase in office salaries is due to the proposed hir ing of a new billing clerk. The new position was made necessary by an increase in utility usage within the city. Increased material costs have re sulted in a $60,000 jump in the proposed budget. The cost of elec trical supplies has risen 40 percent according to City Manager Bardell. Cost of living raises and the hiring of a lineman and a plumbing inspec tor caused an increase of $23,000 in salaries to be paid. A four thousand dollar increase in the amount to be spent for gas and oil was attributed by Bardell to the rise in fuel prices being experienced during the fuel shortage. The opening of a new sewage treatment plant this year will result in an increase of $27,000 in this budget for sewage treatment. The new plant will employ a sys tem which forces air through the sewage in large quantities. The pumps needed to move the air will use $15,000 of electricity according to Bardell. An employe to operate the plant and a 50 percent increase in sewer rent paid to Bryan accounts for the remainder of the proposed rise in this year’s allocation. about $21,000 is the major new item in this year’s proposal. Increases in electrical equipment and the build ing of water lines account for another $51,000 of the allotment. The overall expenditure for capi tal outlay is down, however. This is 'Wt nBBBBHHainiHBHHIi due to a decrease in the building of new outfall lines. Total expenditures of utility funds is expected to rise 19 percent over fiscal ’74. Most of the increase is due to rising material costs and man power requirements. The purchase of a bucket truck at Young) IT IS TRUE... Women will be in the Corps of Cadets this fall.
