THE BATTALION TUESDAY, APRIL, 16, 1974 I Page 4 Kidnap victim in bank (Continued from page 1) tellers’ cages and took the money . . . they were in and out within two minutes.” Greely and other witnesses said there were only four robbers in side; authorities Monday night said there were five. Greely said there were two white women, one black man and one white man. All agreed that four alleged ac complices waited outside the bank. As the robbers fled the bank, officials said they began firing at random and seriously wounded two persons on the street. The persons then fled in two cars, authorities said, both of which were found about nine blocks away. Browning said one of the cars was rented in the name of a “Janet Cooper” who he said had reported several months ago losing her identifications. Browning said Monday night there has been no consultation with the Hearst family on the development. Asked whether he thought this was a break in the kidnaping, robbery Browning said, “It makes things a little more open. We have people identified who have com mitted a federal crime.” The bank robbery began at 9:45 a.m. Monday, said police Sgt. James Glafkides. He said the robbers were armed with pistols and U.S. Army carbines. “They were highly disciplined and operated with hand and verbal signals while in the bank,” he said. As the foursome left the bank and headed for a second car parked just down the street, they apparently panicked and began firing randomly at people on the street, Glafkides said. The bullets hit both Peter Markoff, 59, and Eugene Bran- nan, 70. Both were reported in serious condition at Mission Emer gency Hospital. Police said the four robbers and four alleged accomplices sped from the scene in two cars. They said both were recovered nine blocks from the bank shortly after the holdup. Fee use looked at (Continued from page 1) black audience, and bring them during “Black Week,” said J. Wayne Stark, MSC director. P&Z okays rezoning of subdivision The College Station Planning and Zoning Commission approved the final plat rezoning for South- wood Valley subdivision last night. The commission amended the rezoning measure of the plant to include a request for the develop ers to install sidewalks along Southwest Parkway. Developer W. D. Fitch asked the commission to allow the side walks to adjoin the curb instead of the property line. He said that the grassy strip left by the usual sidewalk installation only caused motorists to step into mud and wet grass when exiting from their cars parked alongside the street. The commission said the city engineer had the authority to de termine sidewalk locations, after consulting with the land develop ers and the area residents.
