Page 4 THE BATTALION TUESDAY, APRIL, 9, 1974 Photo club struggles for darkrooms Ics board electd (Continued from page 1) the only two original MSC Com mittees founded in 1951, will be without the benefit of new struc tural facilities or new equipment when the MSC is completed. The Arts Committee will have a new crafts center with various kinds of new equipment and the Serpentine Ballroom is being completely redone. Four bowling alleys were can celled to make room for the Sing ing Cadets’ new facilities. “The bulk of the equipment was purchased in the ’50’s and ’60’s with occasional replacements and (additions. In the last several years, the chairmen have re quested new equipment in antici pation of the new darkrooms in the new MSC,” said Cobb. “Each year these moves were tabled with the promise they would be fulfilled when the new labs were finished. It’s doubtful now that the labs will be finished anytime in the near future and the receiving of new equipment is doubtful.” Somehow the $30,000 allocated for the construction of the labs was reallocated elsewhere or done away with completely. “We didn’t realize until a month or so ago that the facili ties had been cut from the con struction plans,” said J. Wayne Stark, director of the MSC. “If we knew that funds had been limited, we’d have left oth er things out, like the extra $6,000 spent on crafts equipment. The Camera Committee has an impor tant heritage to carry on. It’s really frustrating to know this has happened and there have been other instances of the same sort of thing happening. “We’ve sent a letter to the ad ministration through Dr. John Koldus, Vice-president of Student Service, to plead for the reinstate ment of funds for the continued construction of at least some of the labs,” Stark said. “We expect a reply to that let ter next week. We’re hopeful that this situation will be reme died.” Interest in the A&M Consoli dated School District was shown by only 10 per cent of the regis tered voters in the school board election, Saturday as 1,164 turned out. In Place 3, the results were Jon Botsford with 640 votes to Rev. Andrew Ray’s 80 and Mrs. Charles Peterson’s 400. In Place 4, O. C. Cooper won over Joseph Natowitz and Neal Nutall with 636 votes tod, 66, respectively. Place 5 was the closest races with Bill Lancaster votes to Mrs. Willie Leigi 416. The other two canij for this position were K| Dorsey with 171 votes andl Glaser with 114. The first meeting of th{ board will be at 7 p.m. tot in the Dist. Adm.
