Page 6 THE BATTALION FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 1974 TCU series opens today BATTALION CLASSIFIED Frogs hold big advantage over Ags WANT AD RATES One day 4(.* per word each acMit The Southwest Conference leading Texas Aggies face their toughest challenge of the season thus far when old nemesis TCU comes to Kyle Field for a three- game baseball series Friday and Saturday. The teams will play a single game at 3 p.m. today with a twin- bill scheduled for 1 p.m. Satur day. Yesterday’s scheduled double- header with Minnesota was rain ed out. A&M and the Gophers split Wednesday. Minnesota is not having much luck with the weather as double- headers on Sunday and Monday were rained out. MU faces Sam Houston today in Huntsville. The Aggies bring a 22-5 sea son record and a 9-0 SWC reading into the series while TCU is 18-8 and 8-4 in league play. The Frogs have won 11 of the 15 games played in the last five years. In 1971, A&M took a 12-0 SWC record into Forth Worth and saw TCU sweep the series. This year the Aggies have had an amazing first half of the sea son. After 25 games, the team batting average is .352 and .349 in SWC play. The Aggies have averaged 8.6 runs and 10.8 hits per game over the full season and have scored 98 runs on 110 hits in nine league games. Coach Tom Chandler picked up his 300th career victory when the Aggies beat Arkansas 15-0 in the first game of last Saturday’s twinbill. In that game, sophomore righthander Clint Thomas missed a no-hitter by the narrow margin of a dropped foul tip third strike with two out in the seventh in ning. The next pitch was lined into leftfield for the only Razor- back hit. The pitching rotation for the Aggies will have senior lefty Jackie Binks (6-0, 1.69 ERA) starting Friday’s game. Thomas (5-1, 1.11) will pitch the first game Saturday with sophomore righthander Perry Arthur (4-0, 2.39) getting the nod in the sec ond game. TCU will counter with ace Frank Johnstone in the Fri day game with Randy Owens and Eddie Ownes pitching Saturday. The batting order for A&M with season and SWC averages: Paul Miller, If (.409, .424), John Woods, cf (.333, .343), Jim Hack er, 3b (.333, .333), Jim Bratsen, lb (.277, .256), A1 Thurmond, dh (.462, .389), Mike Schraeder, 2b (.372, .410), Fred Russ, ss (.365, .314), Bill Raymer, rf (.400, .438), Mike Frazier, c (.340, .273) or Tommy Hawthorne, c (.394, .400). Sandy Bate (.319, .345) could see action as the designated hitter. Ad by Bob Bell Where I Stand the views of Bob Bell candidate for mayor of College Station ZONING: Zoning as a concept for orderly and con trolled growth of a city is good. However, RANDOM RE-ZONING which disrupts or spoils established neighborhoods is not good. Long range growth pat terns and organized developments by companies or individuals should consider existing and established conditions before seeking changes in zoning. If other alternatives exist, I would not look with favor on “random re-zoning” that would disrupt existing neighborhoods. Embrey’s Jewelry We Specialize In Aggie Rings.
