The events as presented are so weird and so foreign that, accord ing to Tim Manning, chairman of the Arts Film Series, the view er isn’t necessarily supposed to be able to figure out what is real ly happening. The two people and their “guide” all trip amazedly through the movie until it sud denly ends. People speak in this film, Man ning says, uttering intentional gibberish. Sometimes the people who appear are not identified as being male or female because their appearance and their actions are so strange, their sex becomes an almost irrelevant detail, he says. Manning reports several odd uses of imagery as in the scene viewed through the extreme wide- angle, “fisheye” lens. The char acters who pass through the scene to be conscious of the curve of the lens and move appropriately. There is also, he says, one very explicit scene of a sexual nature; although the scene does possess imagery of it own. The title “Luminous Procuress” is taken, Manning says, from the efforts of the woman in charge of the excursion into bizarreness, the procuress so to speak, to illu minate all these weird thing for everyone to be amazed at. She is herself amazed despite her seeming foreknowledge of the na ture of the events of the film. “Luminous Procuress” plays at midnight for $1, after the Arts Film presentations of Frederico Fellini’s “The Clowns” and “Juliet of the Spirit,” which all show this evening, starting at 7:30 in the University Center Theater.
