Daniel G. Jaramillo Jr., 26, and eight other men were charged with possession with intent to smuggle heroin. A federal spokesman identified Jaramillo as the informant who last weekend claimed in a state ment that two San Antonio police officers killed two other lieuten ants in the smuggling organiza tion of Fred Gomez Carasco. “All of these developments will no doubt bear on the credibility of the witness, and I’m sure they will be considered by the grand jury,” said Bexar County District Atty. Ted Butler, who was to present Jaramillo’s statement to the grand jury. Officials said, however, the investigation would continue into any alleged police involvement in FOR BEST RESULTS TRY BATTALION CLASSIFIED OR APTS. th, central airi rpeted & draped, Jniversity Shop- Medical Center, d. $165 furnish- including cable. >ad moor 846-2737 317tfn or rent 6 miles fi . WASHINGTON—Israel, Egypt, Syria and Jordan have been invit ed to attend the Middle East peace negotiations expected to begin in Geneva in mid-December, U. S. officials acnowledged. The Palestinians apparently will not be present at the first stage of talks. Both Israel and Jordan are known to have resisted parti cipation by Palestinian represent- tatives, at least at the start. The invitation to Syria appears to imply that there will soon be a resolution of its conflict with Is rael over prisoners. International ALGIERS — The Arab leaders meeting at the summit in Algiers decided to keep the oil squeeze on until they get what they want in the confrontation with Israel. They demanded a full Israeli pull back from all occupied Arab lands and restoration of the rights of the Palestinian people. the April 8 slayings of Agapito Ruiz, 46, and Roy Castano, 32, two Carrasco organization men. “Good God Almighty. That’s all we need,” San Antonio Mayor Charles Becker was quoted as saying when he learned that Jaramillo had been arrested by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration. Becker had en couraged the investigation of Jaramillo’s allegations. Carrasco, 33, now in jail on } charges of assault to murder a i policeman and murder of yet | another gang member, led investi- ! gators to Jaramillo, police sources ! said. An undercover agent described Carrasco Wednesday as “one of the biggest to come down the pike” in terms of drug smuggling activities along the Mexico-United States border. Federal investigators had been working for two months on the continuing activities of Carrasco organization members while Ca rrasco, nicknamed “The Old Man,” was in jail under bonds of more than $600,000. Authorities believe the 10 pounds of what a federal spokes man called “high grade heroin” were from Mexico. The seizure was made without incident at a motel along the Pan-Am Express way on this city’s east side, authorities said. Others besides Jaramillo charged in the Tuesday night seizure were six other San An tonio residents, Arturo Gomez, 41; Ruben Cerna, 23; Valdemar de la Garza, 23; Robert Gomez Ybaro, 21; Arnold Ramirez, 30, and Rudolfo Gomez Ybaro, 23; and Frank Canales, 28, of Dallas and Augustin Barrera, 26, of Falfurrias.
