The manual, prepared by a TEES-assembled multidisciplinary research team, will aid mill oper ators in bringing their facilities in line with air pollution regula tions. Subjects in the manual include methods of evaluating existing in- plant air conveying equipment, evaluating new air pollution con trol equipment, aids in air pollu tion control, and other areas of in terest to oilseed mill operators. Investments Course The College of Business Ad ministration will offer a basic course in investments this spring. The course, Finance 632: In vestment Management, requires no prerequisites or previous knowledge of the area of finance. The purpose of the three-hour course will be to expose the stu dent to the basic fundamentals of investment management and develop the necessary skills for investment analysis and decision making. Surge Control Program Ten manufacturers and users of high-speed rotating machinery gathered Tuesday to discuss plans for a surge control program in the Mechanical Engineering De partment. The firms will provide approx imately $5,000 each toward a re search and education program headed by Dr. M. P. Boyce, asso ciate professor of mechanical en gineering and head of the Gas Turbine Laboratory. Physics Colloquiums Physics colloquiums this week will feature a Russian physicist and a professor from the Univer sity of Washington. Dr. B. P. Dotsenko of Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada, will speak on “Physics in Russia” at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Room 146 of the Physics Build ing. Architecture Presentation Two leading figures in Califor nia architecture and health facil ities planning will present slide- sound discussions at the College of Architecture Thursday and Friday. Father of Geology TAMU’s Center for Tectono- physics recently hosted a renown ed geologist, Prof. David T. Griggs from UCLA. Griggs is widely regarded as the father of modern structural geology. He is with UCLA’s In stitute of Geophysics. During a three-day November visit, Griggs spoke formally on “Evidence of Non-Newtonian Flow in the Mantle.” Police Study The Center for Urban Programs will study police departments in selected Texas cities under a $30,- 000 project sponsored by the Tex as Criminal Justice Council. The study, headed by Dr. Ste phen Riter, associate professor of electrical engineering, will involve analysis of police department op erations to determine benefits ob tained from advanced communi cations and other law enforce ment methods. The Oceanography Department has received a $49,107 extension grant from the Office of Naval Research for continuing ocean- agraphic studies in the Gulf of Mexico. Oceanography Grant Dr. Richard A. Geyer, head of the department, said the funds will be used primarily for shake- down maneuvers on the depart ment’s new research vessel, the R/V Gyre.
