The sampling course, directed by Dr. W. B. Harris, associate professor of chemical engineering at TAMU, is offered to industry and governmental personnel to aid in compliance with Rule 9 of the Texas Air Control Board. Floriculture Scholarship The Central Texas Unit of Tela- flora, an organization of Flowers by Wire Florists, has established a scholarship at TAMU in mem ory of the late Herbert H. Hark- rider of Brady. Truman McPhail of Austin pre sented a $5,000 check to TAMU’s Dr. A. E. Nightingale in tribute to Harkrider, a 1953 TAMU grad uate. Nightingale expressed apprecia tion for the first endowed gift for the promotion of floriculture at TAMU. The gift will provide an annual scholarship to a student majoring in floriculture. “As such, it will pay dividends of investment in our greatest asset—your young people whom are sent to the University for study,” Nightingale noted. Engineering Contribution Walter Heffler, vice president for engineering at Brown and Root, Inc., presented a $15,000 check to College of Engineering Dean Fred J. Benson at TAMU Thursday to finance the firm’s Halliburton Chair of Engineering. The Halliburton Chair professor is Dr. Charles A. Rodenberger, professor of aerospace engineer ing at TAMU. The professor ship, sponsored by the Hallibur ton Educational Foundation, was begun at TAMU in 1965, compli menting several previous years of financial support at Texas A&M by the firm. Free University “The Scientific Way Toward A Happy Marriage” will be dis cussed at TAMU’s Free Univer sity session on “Biological As pects of Social Problems’ Wed nesday. Dr. Johannes van Overbeek, TAMU professor of biology and coordinator of the course, will present the last lecture in this semester’s Free University ser ies. The program is scheduled for 8 p. m. in Room 146 of the TAMU Physics Building. All interested persons are invited to attend. Board Election Emmett O. Kjrkham of La Marque was re-elected chairman of the Texas Maritime Academy Board of Visitors at the group’s annual meeting here Saturday. Delma L. Crook of Galveston became vice chairman of the 14- member board, Crook, director of the National Maritime Research Center, succeeds Sydney Wire of Houston, who retired. The Board of Visitors serves in an advisory capacity for the Galveston-based Texas Maritime Academy, part of TAMU’s Moody College of Maritime Sciences and Maritime Resources. The board meets each year in College Station for briefings with TAMU officials. JIMMY CARAS, five time world billiard champion has been rescheduled. Caras had emergency kidney surgery Thursday afternoon. He called late Sunday afternoon to say that he was unable to travel this week. The show will be rescheduled Dec. 4 at the same times. Caras was to be presented by the Billiards Sub-committee of the MSC Re creation Committee. ‘Rice Special’ Begins Friday “Rice Weekend Special” spon sored by the Southwest Houston A&M Club will begin Friday at the Royal Coach Motor Hotel, 7000 Southwest Freeway. A hospitality room will be open for all Aggies and their friends 6 to 9 p. m. Before Saturday’s 11:30 a. m. game a buffet will be served in the Coach and Horses Room.
