Merrill W. Haas, president elect of the 15,000-member Amer ican Association of Petroleum Geologists, said the fourth Arab- Israeli war would not seem as ominous if the nation had such a policy. “It is high time we face up to the realities of our energy prob lem and get on with the job of creating a national energy pol icy,” he said. Such a policy, he said, should expedite development of sufficient energy supplies to meet present and future needs, encourage effi cient use of energy, and achieve a reasonable balance in the de velopment of supplies and the protection of the environment. WASHINGTON—John T. Dun lop, director of the Cost of Liv ing Council, said Thursday he fa vors continuing wage and price controls into 1974. He said it would be neither desirable nor feasible to end them in 1973. Lifting them before 1974, he said, would bring about “a mag nitude of price increases that would be unsatisfactory. . .” Dunlop was the first adminis tration official of his rank to say he favored continuing the controls into 1974. Under present statutory limitations, the con trols expire April 30, 1974. International BUENOS AIRES, Argentina— An American oil company execu tive has become the latest victim of a wave of kidnapings in Ar gentina. The executive is David B. Wilkie, 48, general manager of Amoco Argentina Oil Co. Car-Motorcycle Accident National DETROIT—Two issues remain ed as stumbling blocks Thursday as Ford and United Auto Work ers representatives negotiated against a strike deadline just hours away. Union President Leonard Wood cock has said the nation’s No. 2 automaker faces a 10 a.m. Fri day strike by 185,000 UAW-rep- resented employees unless tenta tive agreement on a three-year contract is reached. The strike would be Ford’s fourth national walkout. Sources said the two major points remaining at issue were voluntary overtime and a “25 A TAMU student was admitted for observation Thursday after noon at the University Hospital following a car-motorcycle acci dent. Hospital authorities said Geary Wayne Caldwell, a junior eco nomics major from Houston, ap peared! to be in satisfactory con dition following the mishap, but was admitted for X-rays and ob servation as a precautionary measure. The collision occurred on W. 29th St. in Bryan near Bryan High School, according to hos pital officials. President’s Scholars Five additional President’s Scholars have been named for the Class of 1978. New recipients of the most prestigious TAMU scholarship are James W. Bilbro and Dale E. Brigham of Lubbock; Walter W. Kemmerer, League City; Ken- nard L. Kollaus, Cibolo, and Charles H. Turk, Lufkin. The award pays $1,000 a year for up to five years study when they enroll at TAMU. Forty Presidents’ Scholars were named earlier this fall. They were selected from more than 600 high school seniors nominated by their principals. College 823-8051 A&M has completed revision of its policies affected by the new state law lowering the age of majority to 18, announced TAMU President Jack K. Williams. President Williams noted age is no longer mentioned in policy statements concerning admis sions, student-initiated curricu lum changes, refunds and loan ap plications. In accordance with guidelines from the Coordinating Board, Texas College and University Sys tems, all reference to residency requirements are being changed from 21 to 18. While lowering the age cate gory by three years, the universi ty will continue to notify parents or guardians of under-age stu dents in the event of disciplinary action withdrawals from school and requests to live off campus. Grade reports will now he mailed only to the parent or guardian of a student who has compiled 30 or fewer semester hours or upon request of a par ent or guardian. One policy which did not change concerns notification of parents, guardians or spouses in the event of emergencies. Dr. Williams said notification will be made in such cases regardless of age.
