Critics of 142 of the books re newed their objections before the committee at a hearing Tuesday. HOUSTON — The executive director of the Houston office for Israel Bonds reported sales of $80,000 Tuesday in the wake of the latest Middle East war. Marcus D. Leuchter said three men each bought $10,000 worth of the four per cent bonds and paid for them with money bor rowed from a bank at a higher interest rate. He said a woman who already had bought $37,500 in Israel bonds this year bought another $50,000. Albert Goldstein, director of the Houston Jewish Community Council, said the council is mak ing plans to raise funds from Jews and Israeli sympathizers. National NEW YORK — Sticking to his role as a traveling spokesman for the Nixon administration and saying nothing about his own problems, Vice President Spiro T. Agnew called for public sup port of government housing pro gram reforms. During a luncheon speech he said federally subsidized housing has been “a costly failure . . . With what we have subsidized so far — if we never put another penny into housing subsidies — we have already committed American taxpayers to something between $65 and $85 billion dur ing the 30 to 40 years it will take mortgages to run out,” Agnew said. TULSA—A federal judge said he had made “substantial error” in setting damages in his antitrust ruling against Interna tional Business Machines Corp. and would decide on amending his order or granting a new trial next Tuesday. In the ruling last month, U. S. District Court Judge A. Sherman Christensen held that IBM, world’s largest computer manu facturer, was monopolizing the computer accessory field. He ordered IBM to pay the Telex Corp. $352.5 million. IBM asked that he either amend the order or grant a new trial. International BUENOS AIRES—Juan Peron, to be inaugurated as president Friday, has ordered tight secur ity and a low-keyed ceremony as a result of renewed terrorist vio lence. Extremists bombed the Ameri can owned Sheraton hotel in the capital, causing little damage, and attacked offices of Coca Cola, Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., and Mercedes Benz in the industrial city of Cboba, follow ing Monday's assassination of labor leader Julian Julio. THE Wednesday, October 10, 1973 BATTALION College Station, Texas University Hosts Science Conference Science teachers from elementary, junior and senior high schools convene Thursday at TAMU. Up to 800 participants are expected for the 20th Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching (CAST), making it one of the largest at TAMU this year and the biggest academic group to meet in the new J. Earl Rudder Conference Center. Only the Texas Firemen’s Training School and the 4-H Roundup involved more people. The science teachers begin registering at 1 p.m. Thursday. The program of the three-day conference will provide teachers information on new developments, curricula and teaching techniques. Concurrent sessions will cover biology, chemistry, earth science, phy sics, junior high, elementary and special topics areas, according to the conference chairman, Dr. Gary Doolen of the TAMU Physics Depart ment. Dr. Gerard P. Kuiper, noted astrophysicist, will speak Thursday at the first of three general sessions. He directs the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory observatories. Major presentations will also be made Friday and Saturday morn ings by Dr. Robert Vickery, associate director of Individual Science Instruction Systems, Florida State University, and Richard Under wood of the Johnson Space Center photographic technology division. Visiting science teachers will also tour Texas A&M’s Cyclotron, Nuclear Science Center, Electron Microscopy Center and the Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Oceanography-Meteorology Buildings. The conference is sponsored by the Science Teachers Association and TAMU in cooperation with the Texas Science Supervisors Asso ciation, Texas Education Agency and National Science Teachers Asso ciation. Frank Butcher of Baytown and Jesse Cope of Orange head the two Texas science teachers organizations. Underwood is in charge of precision processing of Apollo and Gemini flight films at the NASA center. He serves as consultant for Skylab, the space shuttle, earth resources airex-aft and related activi ties. Dr. Vickery is well known as the author of science textbooks and science series texts.
