Not the kind who fights with his fists. But the type who gives a fiery performance everytime he goes into action. Stratton, a junior from Hous ton Spring Branch knows what the situation is this week when the Aggies invade LSU. “You gotta realize that LSU is going to attack you and you have to be ready to attack them.” Stratton knows what it is to scrap and attack. FOR BEST RESULTS TRY BATTALION CLASSIFIED fight for his position since last spring when JC transfer John Paul McCrumbly, 6-2 and 245, made his appearance as his chal lenger for the middle linebacker’s post. Though only 5-10 and 190, Ken has successfully fought off big John’s strong challenge. “I guess I wish I were bigger,” Stratton says, “But I’ve got to play with what I’ve got and not worry about being larger.” Stratton calls A&M’s defensive signals and consequently he be lieves he has gained a broader understanding of the overall de fense. “I just seem to get a clear er picture of what we’re trying to do.” Too, he’s thankful for the sophomores who play the two joutside linebacker’s islets. “Ed Simonini proved last year as a freshman that he could play and he’s learning more this year and still improving. Garth Ten Napel is coming along fast, too, and he’ll get even better.” At Spring Branch, Stratton was the starting linebacker his last two years and played second-team fullback on offense. “I like the linebacker’s position much better than playing offense, though.” Even though the Aggie defense was impressive in the 48-0 shut out of Wichita State last week, Stratton sees room for a lot of improvement. “We haven’t played together enough yet. We’re still young in that aspect, but I think the defense has a lot of talent and we just need to play more games together. We’ve just got to keep getting better and better.” Last year Stratton was the back-up man to Grady Hoermann. He played in every game except Nebraska and he started the Ar kansas game. Right now, he’s two-for-two as a starter, since the Aggies beat Arkansas last year and Wichita State this year. The thing he remembers most vividly about LSU was its depth. “They kept fresh people in the game and they kept attacking us. They had fantastic depth.” Stratton hopes to do some at tacking of his own this week. RENT A 197.3 DODGE BY THE DAY OR WEEK HALSEIX MOTOR CO.
