Century Club Luncheon
Scheduled for Duncan Hall
The annual Century Club lunch
eon will be held Sept. 15 at A&M
in conjunction with the Aggie-
Wichita State football opener.
Dr. John M. Prescott, dean of
TAMU’s College of Science, will
be guest speaker of the event
sponsored by the Association of
Former Students.
More than 500 persons are ex
pected for the 4:30 p. m. event in
the east wing of Duncan Hall.
Entertainment will be provided by
the Singing Cadets, directed by
Robert L. Boone and accompanied
by Mrs. June Biering. Dinner
music will be by Mrs. Fern Ham-
man, organist.
Tickets at $5 each are available
at the Association of Former Stu
dents office in the Memorial Stu
dent Center.
The Century Club forms the
foundation of the annual fund of
the association, according to Buck
Weirus, executive director. It was
founded April 21, 1965. Century
Club membership includes TAMU
former students and friends who
contribute $100 a year to the
Association annual fund.
Randy Matson, annual fund di
rector, said the Century Club cur
rently lists 3,350 active members,
including over 1,000 new members
this year.
The Sept. 15 luncheon honors
Century Club members and helps
keep them informed about A&M.
The occasion also provides the
opportunity to introduce the Cen
tury Club program to other alumni.

the incoming freshmen were ad
dressed by Dr. Tom Adair, assist
ant to President Williams. Upon
arrival, Mike Penick, the camp
chairman, introduced his assist
ant, Roger Monk, as well as the
four other camps chairmen, Tom
Walker, Ronny Hay good, Stan
Marett and Tony Pelletier.
Guest speakers spoke to the
group concerning leadership,
study habits, morals and other
similar topics. These were follow
ed by discussion groups in which
the students expressed their
opinions on the speakers’ topics.
Mixers were held each evening
to give the students a chance to
become acquainted with one oth
er. The first night, the students
held a rock dance, and the next
night, country-western dance.
The last night’s dance began as
an all country-western one, but
the appearance of rock tapes al
tered the course of the evening’s
activity.
Despite the many scheduled
events, the freshmen found time
to create their own activities. The
girls, led by Diana Bernhard and
Anne Ramage, started off the sec
ond day by awakening the males
with the Aggie War Hymn at 6:30
a.m. The men, in retaliation,
launched a relentless pursuit of
imaginary white rats through the
girls’ cabins. No rats were found,
but the girls’ camp was left in a
disorderly condition.
