Call For Information 822-2520 or 822-4972 Opera, the pageant of story in song, and other cultural presen tations will be hosted this aca demic year by the new Opera and Performing Arts Society. A functioning committee of Town Hall, OPAS has scheduled for its debut season such organi zations as the National Ballet of Washington, Jan. 31, and the Houston Symphony, April 25. All performances will be held in the new University Auditorium. To become part of this organi zation a contribution of $20 or a guaranteed pledge of $100 is nec essary. These gifts can be made on an installment plan. Members of the organization are given first option on season tickets, their names listed in all programs and pamphlets and receive invitations to “after-performance parties and the after-opera festivities, the Op era Gala. A season ticket for students with activity cards costs from $13.60 to $21.25, depending on seating placement. This is almost a 50 per cent discount from reg ular prices. Students without cards pay from $16.65 to $26.50, and regular season tickets cost from $18.45 to $31. OPAS’ first presentation will be on Nov. 5 with Christopher Parkening, who has been hailed as America’s “first important classical guitarist.” The remainder of the premier season includes: Itzhak Perlman, violinist, Dec. 5; Van Clibum, renown pianist, Jan. 17; Marisa Galvanny, soprano, April 9; and special attraction, the Houston Lyric String Quartet with Albert .iHirsh, pianist, March 28. The climax of the season will be the opera buffa, “The Marriage of Figaro,” Feb. 27, featuring Nor man Treigle in the major role and the Opera Gala held afterward. OPAS, founded in the fall of 1972, is supported by the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley. Under direction of its executive committee, more than 500 people in the eight county area of the Brazos Valley, including TAMU students, have arranged and fi nanced this program to begin an era of cultural presentations.
