In the past three weeks we have considered Greek, Japanese and French cuisine. Today we turn to what we shall call (for lack of a better term) “overall cuisine.” We are about to discuss what truly must be considered as one of the finest overall restaurants in Texas. The restaurant is Trader Vic’s in the Shamrock- Hilton in Houston on the corner of Main and Holcombe streets. A word to the wise: Stay away from Trader Vic’s Chinese food as it is at best average. Trader Vic’s provides excellent Polynesian, Indonesian, Japanese, Indian and Far Eastern cuisine. If that sounds like a broad ex panse, you are right. We do not usually use superlatives but we feel that to describe Trader Vic's they must be used. There is only one word for their drinks: Stu pendous! Traden Vic’s has a four- page drink and wine list. For a first visit to Trader Vic’s we recommend their Mai Tai (a huge frozen daiquiri), the London sour or the Western sour. There are two things about the drinks that stand out. They are excellent and they are huge. To go with the drinks, order as an appetizer the Malaysian Tidbits which are a delicious mix ture of Malayan snacks. Try also the excellent Rangoon Crab or the Stuffed Shrimp. You are served the appetizers on toothpicks over a flame to keep them warm while you sip your drinks and wait for your dinner to be served. After you are through with the appetizer, you are brought warmed and perfumed Oshibori towels to clean your hands and YOU lRE* ’ING £1.19 SING EEF M "Do Yourself A Favor ,, With A Loupot's 66 Z)iie You 9 Get 20% More When You Buy Books With Books 4G -4ER 3ple Tes> '"Due 'tyou . JUST ANOTHER WAY OF SAYING “LOU WANTS TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU” LOU POT'S ACROSS FROM THE POST OFFICE refresh yourself. Start off your meal with Trader Vic’s superb green soup. Then, try the Cosmo salad which is a delightful con coction of artichokes, mushrooms and lettuce served chilled in its own dressing. For an entree, try the Indonesian lamb roast or, if you are daring, the hot Indian shrimp curry served with steamed rice and four kinds of chutney. To top off your meal try the flaming brandy ice cream. In addition to being a culinary delight, Trader Vic’s is a truly high class restaurant. No sooner than you put a cigar into your mouth than someone is there to light it for you, as if by magic. If you really want to splurge, Trader Vic’s is the place to do it. The only bad thing about it is that the waiters are rather for ward about their tips. But, nevertheless, if we had to recom mend one place to eat during the Rice Corps trip next fall, it would be Trader Vic’s. Good eating! neth W. Baker, Waco; Capt. Rod ney E. Blaikie, Pasadena, and Capt. Arthur N. Fokakis, Hatties burg, Miss. Col. Crossland, professor of aerospace studies, said they will have sophomore, junior and senior instructional duties. The Naval Science Department expects one addition to its faculty, according to Col. C. E. Hogan, but the assignment has not come through. Four are A&M graduates and two others were in graduate de gree programs at A&M before assignment. Col. Pena graduated in 1956 in animal husbandry and was in Battery “B” Field Artil lery in the Cadet Corps. A 1959 grad in mechanical engineering, Maj. Partridge was corps chap lain. Capt. Baker was in the Class of ’64, accounting and First Group scholastic officer. Capt. Henry, ’66, studied government and was in Company E-2. Capt. Blaikie has been a grad uate student in educational ad ministration; Capt. Fokakis, ma rine biology. Saturday, August 11th From Austin Bourbon Riff' 9 p. m. -1 a. m. $1.50 a head !l is!
