Seidel of Bren- ham and Fidel Rodriguez of Bishop. Seidel, deputy corps command er, received the Brown Founda tion-Earl Rudder Memorial Out standing Student Award for 1973. It includes $5,000 and a plaque. Rodriguez was presented the Doherty Award, including $3,000. He was First Wing commander in the 1972-73 Corps of Cadets. Both cadets have near perfect grades and extended themselves through an exceptional variety of student activities during their TAMU careers. Established from a $100,000 gift by The Brown Foundation of Houston, the Brown Foundation- Rudder award honors an out standing graduating Texas A&M senior who exemplifies the qual ities and traits of the late Gen. Earl Rudder. Rudder died in 1970, after serving as TAMU president 11 years. Previous recipients were Corps Commander Van Taylor of Tem ple and Kirk Hawkins, First Bri gade commander of San Angelo. The Doherty Award was estab lished in 1971 by W. T. Doherty of Houston in memory of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Doherty. The 1922 Texas A&M graduate endowed the annual award. Doherty stipulated that the recipient should be a graduat ing senior who earned a reserve officer commission, believes in God, loves his family, has strong feelings of patriotism for the U. S. and Texas and possesses a strong Aggie spirit and love for Texas A&M. Deputy Corps Commander Thomas Bain Jr. of Dallas and Corps Commander Thomas Stan ley of Mt. Pleasant were its first recipients. Both Seidel and Rodriguez were members of the Ross Volunteers, elite honor military unit, and re ceived the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement, presented by the national Medal Honor Society. Among Rodriguez’ many ac complishments at Texas A&M in clude No. 1 rank in his Air Force ROTC class, standing among the top four of civil engineering studies, “Who’s Who,” corps scho lastic sergeant last year and leadership positions in the YMCA and MBA Program. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fidel Rodriguez, 704 W. 3rd, Bishop, will begin four years active duty at Brooks AFB as a civil engi neer. Seidel is first of 157 Army ROTC cadets in his class and a Distinguished Military Student. He was a Superior Army cadet each, year as an underclassman, recreation vice president and ex ecutive vice president for projects of the Memorial Student Center, and won four separate scholarship awards. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Seidel, 604 Peach Tree, Bren- ham, has been a Distinguished Student seven semesters and ranks first among 78 in his Col lege of Business Administration class.
