Editor: It is a fortunate time for vot ers when they can choose be tween two very qualified candi dates for the position of Student Body President, as in the case of the runoff elections tomorrow. Both Mark Blakemore and Randy Ross have extensive backgrounds in Student Government, and both have been closely involved with student services and projects, and have served on a number of Uni versity committees and are very familiar with the operation and red tape of the University. As officers of the Student Gov ernment, we have worked closely with Mark and Randy, and have had much opportunity to evalu ate their accomplishments. We endorse MARK BLAKE MORE for Student Body Presi dent for two reasons. Mark is more well-rounded, having work ed closely with the Senate, MSC, the Corps, the Residence Hall Association, the Student ‘Y’ As sociation and the International Students Association in a num ber of campus social and service activities. We feel that through his work on these projects, he has gained more awareness of all segments of the student body. Secondly, in his participation in committee work and supple mentary involvement in student projects, we feel that Mark has been outspoken and decisive in his representation of student at titudes. For these reasons we support the candidacy of MARK BLAKEMORE for Student Body President. Layne Kruse Fred Campbell Rules and Regulations Steve Wakefield Student Services Barb Sears External Affairs Steve Eberhard Academic Affairs Lucy Stearman Corresponding Secretary ★ ★ ★ Editor: After considering the qualifi cations and records of the candi dates for Student Body President, we, the undersigned, feel that the candidate who would best repre sent the interests of the entire student body at Texas A&M is RANDY ROSS. A n important qualification which cannot be negated, but rather emphasized, is a familiari ty with the Student Government processes. Randy Ross has worked very effectively in the Student Government for three years and has been recognized for outstanding service. This is a product of dedication. The record which Randy Ross has built during- his tenure is consistent and directed at the en tire student body. He has con tinually worked for and followed through with many programs which benefit all students. An integral part of RANDY ROSS’ platform is to “involve more students, in addition to those already participating in Student Government, in student planning and policy-making de cisions.” Based on his reliability and honest presentation of himself, we believe in RANDY ROSS, and urge you to also support him and vote in his favor. Miller ’73 Russell Braden ’73 Steve Massey ’73 Skip Hefferman ’74 ★ ★ ★ Editor: As a candidate for Student Body President, a number of ac cusations have been levelled against me and I would like to briefly explain a few points and squelch rumors for “Listen Up’s” readers. In regard to the questions raised concerning the public re lations campaign of the RHA, the name change in our organiza tion supplied the basis for the campaign planned for the two weeks before Spring Fling. The idea was discussed openly with both Executive and Assem bly members. The officers will not turn over until the RHA Ban quet at the end of April. I do favor co-ed housing at A&M on both sides of the cam pus and have led the RHA’s ef forts in this direction. I would like to stress that the MSC Coun cil and Directorate should con tinue autonomously without Stu dent Government control. It has been proven that the two can work together by Free Universi ty, although programming should be planned and produced by the Council and Directorate alone. Before the election campaign began I made a promise to my self that I would not enter in to any “mudslinging” practices against my opposition. Now that the eve of the election is here and I have successfully kept my promise, I put my faith in the students to elect the most effec tive and versatile candidate for Student Body President. T. Mark Blakemore ★ ★ ★ Editor: I would like to express my sup port for MARK BLAKEMORE for president of the student body for these reasons: 1. His strong convictions on issues, 2. His ability to present a favorable image for A&M, and 3. His ability to represent the University as a whole. Please consider these points before you vote. John ‘Doc’ Shroff ★ ★ ★ Editor: On Thursday students will be voting on who will best repre sent Texas A&M as Student Gov ernment president. We feel that one of the candidates, MARK BLAKEMORE, has shown that he cannot only work with every segment of the student body, but that he can find solutions to problems that will benefit all of the students. This year, through his leader ship, he has fostered cooperation and understanding among several campus organizations. He has proven to us that he can best represent the interests of stu dents. Therefore, we urge you to support MARK BLAKEMORE in tomorrow’s elections for the presidency. Jimmy Griffith Juan Gonzales Kerry Hulse Cal Ramage Wade F. Seidel Fidel Rodriguez Jr. ★ ★ ★ Editor: During the past few weeks of election campaigning, the char acter of T. Mark Blakemore, can didate for president of the stu dent body, has been defamed by accusations which we feel are un true and unjust. We have known and worked with T. Mark during the past year and we have found him to be describable only in terms of honesty and integrity. Having seen T. Mark’s inter est in cooperation between stu dents and student groups, we feel that voting for T. Mark Blake more is the only wise choice one can make for Student Body pres,- ident of TAMU. Joe R. Arredondo Jr. Mark A. Cuculic ★ ★ ★ Editor: I have been especially inter ested in the various allegations leveled against T. Mark Blake more during his quest to become Student Body President. These allegations are serious indeed, in cluding the charge that he used RHA funds to further his own political interest and that he rail roaded changes in the CSC Con stitution (including an extra fee) without fully consulting his con stituents. I had hoped that all of the charges against Blakemore would prove to be superficial ones be cause I detest unwarranted char acter assassination. However, only one has been answered and I am not quite convinced that Blakemore’s intentions are as snow white as Barb Sears claims. Thus, the widespread nature of these questions, the diversity of sources, and the absence of a complete and convincing denial from Blakemore force me to con clude that at least some of the charges are well founded and that any denial at this point in the campaign would simply be a denial of desperation. Larry Jendrusch ★ ★ ★ Editor: Every spring, all we hear is, “The Senate is a bunch of idiots! They don’t care about the stu dents.” I know of at least one person who has done an excel lent job for you in the past year. His name is Mark Fitte. Mark has worked hard in sev eral committees and his accom plishments in the Texas Student Lobby are outstanding. Through the TSL, Mark has become dedi cated to the students’ needs and now wants to take this dedica tion to the office of Student Body vice-president. Randy Stephens ★ ★ ★ Editor: I’d like to endorse Curt Marsh for Chairman of the Rules and Regulations Committee. Senator Marsh is the only logical choice for this position because of his previous work experience on the committee. It would be very hard for me to visualize the Rules and Regulations Committee as being anything but ineffective with a chairman who has had practically no experience working on it. Mr. Marsh’s opponent is such a can didate. Besides the Rules and Reg ulations Committee, Mr. Marsh has proved himself a hard and competent worker on the Ex change Store Evaluation Commit tee, the Blue book Reorganization sub-committee, Great Issues, and other such activities on campus. I strongly urge your support of Curt Marsh for Rules and Regu lations Committee Chairman. Andy Brosh ’73 ★ ★ ★ Editor: This letter is to endorse Shariq Yosufzai for Student Body vice- president. The 1,565 votes Shariq received in the general elections are a glittering testimony to his truly outstanding stature as a leader. Yosufzai’s experience as president pro-tem of the Student Senate and his vast experience as Senator for several years has impressed us all. But, above all, his outstanding platform stands out for being student oriented and identifying with student needs. A vote for Yosufzai will be a vote for experienced, re sponsive and student-oriented government. We urge the entire student body to provide a splen did victory on April 5 for him. Shariq Yosufzai is the only truly experienced candidate running and has a platform which has impressed us all. Shariq Yosuf zai has the potential to become the finest Student Body vice- president in the history of A&M and we unreservedly request ev eryone to vote for him.
