Walker, associate ex ecutive director of A&M’s Asso ciation of Former Students the past four years, will become the university’s director of develop ment Feb. 1, announced President Jack K. Williams. Walker will direct an overall “blending” of fund-raising activ ities for the university and its alumni association, Dr. Williams noted. The 1958 TAMU graduate will coordinate programs involving corporate and foundation gifts, trust funds and deferred giving, including bequeaths. His primary responsibilities with the alumni association have been in the area of fund raising. The association had its first mil- lion-dollar year in 1970 and ap proached $2 million last year for an all-time record. Walker initiated the universi ty’s highly successful President’s Endowed Scholarship Program, through which donors contribute $25,000 for endowments providing annual $1,000 scholarships for top high school graduates. Funds are in hand or commitments have been made for nearly 100 such scholar ships. The 37-year-old Victoria native will continue personally to direct the President’s Endowed Scholar ship Program, while Randy Mat- son will be directly in charge of the alumni association’s annual fund and Century Club program. Matson, 1967 TAMU graduate and world record holder in the shot put, joined the association’s staff last year. Walker succeeds Dorsey Mc- Crory, who is leaving the univer sity to devote full time to busi ness interests. Prior to joining the TAMU As sociation of Former Students, Walker was associated with Pep- perdine University in Los An geles for nine years. His respon sibilities there included fund rais ing, placement, alumni and col lege relations activities. His undergraduate degree from TAMU is in business administra tion. He earned a master’s in ed ucation at Pepperdine in 1966 and is nearing completion of course work for a Ph.D. in educational administration at TAMU. He was graduated from high school in Spur.
