Rollie White Coli seum tonight against East Texas State at 7:30 p.m. Although only breaking even the past six games, A&M has faced some of the nation’s finest basketball teams. Coach Shelby Metcalf’s forces deefated ranked Penn State (62- 55) and Mississippi (100-83) in the All-College Classic while los ing only to Brigham Young (83- 81) giving the Aggies a fourth place finish. In Houston’s Blue bonnet Classic, A&M topped Wichita State, 102-86, in the open ing round and lost to tenth ranked Houston, 114-85, in the tourna ment finale. The first game of the long road trip gave Oral Roberts University a 117-99 win over A&M in Tulsa. “I feel we are right on sched ule as the way I hoped we’d be going into conference play,” Metcalf said in a press conference Tuesday. “I’m pleased with our development both mentally and physically. We need to play well against East Texas and polish up on some things to be ready for the conference opener against Arkansas Saturday afternoon.” Five players are averaging in double figures for A&M this sea son with junior Randy Knowles leading the way with a 15 point average, followed closely by Jeff Overhouse with 14.5 and Mario Brown with 12.2. Others are Ced ric Joseph (11.5) and Mike Floyd (11.3). Joseph leads the team in re bounds with 9.8 per contest while Knowles has 9.7. High point of A&M play thus far is free throw shooting with a 73% team percentage hitting on 216 of 298 attempts. Floyd has hit his last 25 in a row and set a new Bluebonnet record by hit ting 16 of 16 Saturday night against Houston. Knowles leads the team with a 91 percent mark hitting 38 of 42. Floyd is second with 88 percent hitting on 50 of A&M, now with a 7-4 mark for the season, has outrebounded its opposition by a 51-46 average margin and outscored the foes by a 86-82 score. 5'7.
