THE BATTALION Wednesday, November 15, 1972 College Station, Texas Page 3 European Winter Holiday Offered By Travel Committee A “Europe winter holiday” at Courchevel, France, will be of fered by the Memorial Student Center Travel Committee during the semester break at the same price as the Colorado ski trip. Courchevel, the most modern and extensively developed ski area in Europe, encompasses five towns on different levels in one complex. Once a pasture that only goats and sheep knew about, the area has been developed into 62 miles of interconnecting trails with runs from beginner’s to ex pert’s with intermediate runs from top to bottom. The trails are a ski equivalent of Venice’s canals. Everywhere, guests can ski down or ride back up prac tically to the door of their hotels. One can reach distant lifts by skiing over or hail an Air Alps plane. Other day or night Student Senators (Continued from page 1) One student went to the extent of outlining a method to control campus traffic which included the use of guard sations to keep cars off-campus in a closed campus situation. As part of this brief survey, The Battalion went to Student Government President Layne Kruse for a general explanation of the Senate, its purposes and its functions. “The Student Government pro vides two basic functions,” began Kruse in his outline. “First, it does what its name implies — it governs. Secondly, it works to provide services to the students which are not normally given to them.” “Over-all, the student govern ment is an integral part of the university.” Kruse pointed out there are two methods of representation. This includes the fifty senators chosen by apportionment in the various colleges and the senators repre senting the various living areas on- and off-campus. He said the primary duty of the senator was to represent his con stituents. “Of course there are two ways a senator can do this,” heb con tinued. “One, he can go directly to the student and ask their opinion on various matters. On the other hand, he may represent his constituents by just being in the same environment, participat ing in the same programs and running up against the same type problems.” “If the Senate did not exist, a lot of services such as refriger ators, Free University, Fair Hous ing Commission, Day Care Cen ter and the like would be cur tailed.” “Of course it wouldn’t be neces sary to have these things such as representation, student reforms and other changes made by stu dent in-put, but I think this would be a great loss to the universitj and its students,” concluded Kruse. 1972 Honda SL-360, only 1100 miles, ex- ■ellent condition, 846-0216 142tfn WANTED Environmental Engineering Division Needs 4 Students For Journal Research • Requirements: Strong background in organic chemistry or Biology; willingness to work. • Pay: commensurate with expe rience. 845-3011 —EVERYDAY— Prestone Anti-Freeze and summer coolant $1.69 Premium grade Douglas Tires mounted and HIGH SPEED balanced for no extra charge.
