By BILL HENRY Battalion Sports Editor Will the Aggies win their sec ond conference game of the year? Will SMU go to a bowl? Will A&M’s defense be able to hold the M&M boys ? These and many other ques tions will be answered Saturday afternoon when the Texas Aggies and the SMU Mustangs entertain each other in the Cotton Bowl beginning at 2:00. A&M will try to put together back-to-back victories after losing six in a row since beating fav ored Arkansas last week. The Mustangs will try and get back on the winning track after losing two straight loop games to Texas and Tech. Both teams are definitely out of the conference race but the Mustangs still have hopes of be ing asked to a post-season bowl game. The Aggies have little or no chance to be invited anywhere but can put the Mustangs’ bowl hopes to an end with a win. This will be the 55th meeting between the two schools in a ri valry begun with a 62-0 Aggie win in 1916. The Aggies lead the series 25-23-6. A&M holds the longest winning streak with eight between 1939 and 1946. The Mustangs have won five of the last seven games including a 27-10 loss last year in College Station. In that game last year, Mark Green (then a sophomore) set a Southwest Conference mark with 41 rushes for 158 yards. Green will not see action Saturday due to a sprained knee suffered against TCU three weeks ago. The settings will be the same however as SMU was beaten by Texas and the Aggies topped Ar kansas just as last year. SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP OFFER. A&M took over SMU’s second place SWC ranking by al lowing only 284 yards per game in eight contests. SMU dropped to third with a 285.6 per game allowance. The real question for the Ag gies is not in the defense but in the offense. The A&M offense is ranked seventh out of eight teams in total offense with a per game average of 289 yards. SMU ranks fourth with 343.7 yards per game. A&M’s offensive strength, if there is one, is with the rush in past games. SMU’s defense leads the nation and the conference in defending the ground attack by allowing only 112 yards per con test. Richard Osborne and Carl Roaches will alternate at split end, Mike Park will be at left tackle, Ricky Seeker will be at left guard, Skip Kuehn at center, Smelser or Buster Callaway at right guard, Ralph Sacra will be at right tackle and Homer May will be at tight end to round out the offensive line-up. In the backfield will be Don Dean at quarterback, Brad Dusek at fullback, Skip Walker at right half and either Bubba Bean or Ronnie Hubby will be at left half. The defensive unit will be made up of Bird or Don Long at left end, Paul Hulin at right end, Boice Best at right tackle and Bill Wiebold at left tackle. Linebackers will be Ed Simo- nini, Grady Hoermann and Kent Finley. The secondary will be made up of Robert Murski, Corky Shef field, Larry Ellis and A1 Thur mond. Injuries have again popped up in the Aggie camp. Freshman right guard Dennis Smelser has had a bout with the flu this week and is questionable in the tilt. If he does play, he will have lost much-needed strength to combat the very physical Mustang line. Max Bird, who injured a knee against Arkansas, was very doubtful in the beginning of the week but has made great im provement and could conceivably see action. Green is still out and Bubba Bean is still suffering with a slight shoulder separation suf fered against Arkansas. “CORP TRIP” AFTER GAME PARTY Northpark Inn Exhibit Center 9300 N.
