New reports filed with the Gen- era l Accounting Office showed Tuesday that while the chief Nix on finance committee was slightly in debt earlier this month, its numerous satellites had a mini mum of $4.7 million going into the final two weeks of the campaign. McGovern’s key campaign com mittee, McGovern for President, Inc., of Washington, D.C., show ed a cash deficit of $107,000 and debts of $2.86 million. But con tributions appeared to be flowing in at a greater rate than those for the President. The expenditures of the two presidential candidates were cull ed from more than 1,000 pages of reports mittees. from dozens of com- The reports cover the period Sept. 1-Oct. 16, but also include cumulative totals going back to April 7 when a new federal elec tions law went into effect requir ing disclosure quarterly and on the 15th and 5th days before a primary or general election. Because of a delay caused by the federal government’s obser vance of the Veterans’ Day holi day Monday, when the reports were due, the GAO had process ed only a few of the hundreds of reports on hand. Those available included six major Washington-based Nixon committees and 20 state commit tees. Only cumulative totals were available for McGovern for Pres ident, Inc., and the GAO said it would be another day before the full 2,100-page report was proc essed. The European organization con ducted by Founder-Director Hel mut Mueller-Bruhl will open the new Artist Showcase iSeries, at 8 p. m. in the Bryan Civic Audi torium. Helmut Mueller-Bruhl founded the Cologne Chamber Orchestra in 1960 to present concerts in the 200-year-old Augustusburg- Bruhl Castle near Cologne. Suc cess led to establishment of a series of 25 concerts at the castle each season. The orchestra, recipient of Grand Prix du Disque and the Grand Prix du Discophiles record ing awards, also has toured ex tensively in Europe and the Far East.
