UCLA brought the top ranked Cornhuskers out of the clouds with a 20-17 West Coast upset last Saturday and the Aggies can expect to find a revenge-minded hunch of red-clad Cornhuskers in Lincoln this week. Nebraska has great personnel and experience at every position. They have lettermen as alternate starters at every position except quarterback, and a defense that is renowned for its stinginess. The Aggies will have their hands full. The explosive offense is led by speedster Johnny Rogers (5-9, 173) at slotback. Rogers hurt the Aggies with a touchdown punt return last year. The All-Ameri can can also return kickoffs. The other receivers are split REGISTERED DIAMOND RINGS MOON DREAM Expert watch repair, jewelry repair, and engraving. Main — 846-6687 Hubert Beck Pastor end Frosty Anderson (6-1, 176) and tight end Jerry List (6-1, 218). Both have good speed and are threats to score on any play. The Nebraska offensive line has Doug Dumler (6-3, 230) at center; Mike Beran (5-11, 225) and Bob Wolfe (6-5, 242) are the guards; and Marvin Crenshaw (6-5, 223) and Daryl White (6-4, 238) are the tackles. The offensive backfield runs from the I-formation with Rogers in the slot. David Humm (6-2, 186), one of the most sought-after schoolboy quarterbacks in the nation two years ago, will quarterback the Cornhuskers. The Las Vegas, Nev., product is only a sophomore but is considered to have more potential than All-American Jer ry Tagge, who led the Cornhusk ers to their second straight na tional championship. Fullback Bill Olds (6-1, 224) is another big threat for the Aggies. His running and blocking are likely to give the Aggies fits. The deep-back in the “I” is Gary Dixon (5-8, 188). The senior running back is another impor tant cog to the Nebraska ball control game. The Nebraska defense, which was considered to be one of the best, if not the best, in the nation last year, is still intact with Wil lie Harper and Ric Glover return- I ing for another campaign. Both | All-Americans, the fast and strong linemen almost dare all | runners to come their way. Both j keep the pressure on the opposi- I tion’s quarterback and must be j neutralized by the Wishbone at- ; tack of the Aggies if they are to | put any dents on the scoreboard, j The over-all Nebraska defense ! lines up with Harper (6-2, 208) and Steve Mansted (6-2, 210) at ends, John Dutton (6-7, 248) and Bill Janssen (6-3, 230) at guard and the incomparable Glover (6-1, 233) at the middle guard post. The linebackers are Jim Branch (5-9, 203) and John Pitts (6-1, 196) with Dave Mason (6-0, 199) as the monster man. The Nebraska pass defense is anchored by halfbacks Joe Blahak (5-9, 179) and Randy Borg (6-0, 189) with George Kyros (5-9, 155) as the deep safety. Nebraska coach Bob Devaney said the Aggies good as UCLA,” theJ ruined Devaney’s M head coach, as he retj end of this season. Polo Tourney Set Saturday In an effort to stimulate in terest in Texas water polo and give this year’s Fish team much needed experience, Texas A&M will host a novice water polo tournament and coaches’ clinic in Downs Natatorium Saturday. The feature of this year’s af fair, which will run all day, will be an instructional • clinic for ; coaches, parents and players from 12:30 until 2 p. m. The clinic will be broken down into three parts: goal play, field | play, and rules and will be headed by Coach Dennis Fosdick with j assistance from A&M’s varsity | water polo team. This year’s Fish team, which j Fosdick says “must be considered j the heavy favorite,” consists of i 35 players. This is the most A&M has ever had out for water polo before. The starting unit consists of goalie Steve Moore, and Jim Yates, both of Santa Clara, Calif., Mike Riley of Killeen, Bill Bernau from LaMarque, Mike Vander Herst of Saratoga, Calif., Casey Butler from 111. and another Southern California product Lee Davis. The first round action pits the Fish against Clear Creek “B”, Deer Park vs. St. Marks, Texas at Arlington freshman vs. Clear Creek “A” and Alvin vs. College Station. The Fish and UTA are the only college level teams competing. The others are high school teams. The varsity water polo team makes its debut on Wednesday against a team from Rice and Baylor Med-School.
