Bryan, has bean at the University of Quebec 14 months, teaching, studying and practicing her French, conducting research in leisure studies, working on pro vincial government projects and traveling. Miss Zweifel's study pro gram at the UniveraHe Ren* Descartes, a branch of the Uni- verstiy of Paris, starts two weeks later. Her master's degree studies of leisure will include a travel-study program through which Miss Zweifel will visit Prague, Cxecho- siovakia; Sweden, and Hamburg, Germany. The Rotary award in cludes a 90-day extension pro vision. “I will also have opportunity to participate in a group study related to comparative study of the leisure of seven countries, directed by Mr. J off re Dirmaxe- dier,” the Bryan High School graduate noted. White in France, Mis* Zweifel will visit the family of Laurence DedMouv, an exchange student at Bryan High School last year. Mias Dedidouv's father is a cul tural affairs official in Paris. Miss Zweifel’s counselor in France, assigned by Rotary Inter national, will be Claude Vuitton, president of the Paris Rotary Chib. A Distinguished Student at TAMU, Miss Zweifel studied four months in Europe at her own expense during 1909. She also worked for the National Recrea tion and Park Association in Washington, D. C., a summer and was delegate to state, district and national recreation and park con ferences. Since returning to the U. 8. In July, she has worked as a tech nical assistant in TAMU's Recre ation and Parks Department. Indonesians use Aggie War Hymn to teach army recruits to march The eyes of Texas may be upon folks in the Lone Star State, as a certain college song contends, but the Aggie War Hymn is heard around the world. Latest evidence comes from Dr. Paul D. No one is sure who introduced the Aggie War Hymn in the South Pacific, Dr. Torrey re ports, but whoever it was played it enough to attract the attention of the commander of the local guard unit. The officer bor rowed a recording, summoned his bandmaster and ordered him to memorise it and teach it to all his men. "The unit has about 20 drum- ^ men and 20 trumpeters who are well versed In the music and seem to take great delight in playing * It,” relates Dr. Torrey, who it should be noted for the benefit of skeptics, is not an Aggie. Everyone wes duly impressed when they learned the “great sig nificance” of this music, assures the prominent petroleum engi- neer, and even more so when he confided in them about plans to adopt the Aggie War Hymn as the Texas state anthem. A&M coed wins crown Debbie Smith faces a busy freshman year at AAM. Besides her studies in horti culture and extra-curricular ac tivities of a first year TAMU student. Miss Smith will be mak ing a number of parades, pag eants and festivals around the state. It will be part of her responsi bilities as 1973 Aqua Beauty, representing the 1972 Austin Aqua Festival. An 18-year-old brown-eyed, brown-haired beauty, Miss Smith was selected from among 30 con testants for the title during Austin’s annual celebration. As the Aqua Beauty, she will * represent Austin and the Aqua Festival in parades, pageants and festivals for one year. Her prede cessor. Kathy Lynn White, repre sented the festival at Corpus Christi’s Buccaneer Days and the National'Cherry Festival at Tra verse City, Mich. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton O. Smith Jr., Austin and was sponsored by the University Optimist Club.
