The annex will contain such things as auditoriums, conference rooms and a Former Students Association office. (Photo by Bob Leitz) ew freshman handbook eing put together for fall ■ Staff members are in the proc ess of completing a new fresh man handbook which will be available in late August or early September. ■ The handbook will be consoli- Mbtri! partially from previous Sindbooks which have been pub lished by the university and the YMCA. This new book will be more comprehensive, though. Bob Leitz, editor, said. B “With the handbook and the catalogue, a student will have the most comprehensive sources of information with which to an swer questions about A<frM,” ex plained Leitz, an English instruc tor and Ph.D. candidate. The handbook will be written ih a semi-formal style, with more ihotographs than the catalogue or previous handbooks. Leitz be lieves this will make the new handbook more readable. The handbook will contain eight sections, including sports, student government, the Me morial Student Center and facili ties and services. “The real feature will be the troubleshooter s e c t i o n,” Leitz said. This will consist of a di rectory of problems. If a student has some trouble, he can look it up and find out who to see about it, Leitz explained. The hand book will also tell where to find these people, both their room and phone numbers. A revised map of the campus will be included. This will also show where area churches are located. The sports section will empha size intramurals and how stu dents can participate in them. The section on facilities and services will include the admin istration. It will describe the of fices and duties of the registrar. admissions office, financial aid office and others. Leitz hopes this section will change students’ attitudes to wards the administration. “The administrator is there to serve him and generally wants to,” he said. Included in the religious life section will be a list of local churches. It will contain not only the times and places of worship services but also what facilities each church offers students. A glossary will explain A&M terms and traditions. The directory of clubs and organizations will contain infor mation about membership re quirements, dues and club proj ects. Assisting Leitz on the hand book are Dennis Minor, a Ph.D. candidate in English, and Sandy Eichorn, a senior education ma jor. AT NORTH GATE OPEN FROM 11 A. M. TO 7:30 P.
