Copp has joined the A&M faculty in dual admin istrative capacities for the Col leges of Agriculture and Liberal Arts. Copp heads the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and is associate head of the Depart ment of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. His appointment, effective June 1, was jointly announced by Lib eral Arts Dean W. David Maxwell and Agricultural Dean H. 0. Kunkel. The former human resources branch chief with the U. S. De partment of Agriculture in Wash ington, D. C., will have charge of the total teaching program in sociology and anthropology. Copp, 47, formerly taught at Kansas State, the University of Wisconsin and Penn State. He joined the USDA Economic De velopment Division-Economic Re search Services branch in 1967. He succeeds acting head Dr. Robert L. Skrabanek in the Soci ology and Anthropology Depart ment, created in the fall of 1970. The two-year-old academic de partment has a professional fac ulty of 14 and 226 majors, of which 16 are Ph.D. candidates and 180 are undergraduates. Dr. Copp received the bachelor and master’s degrees in sociology at the University of Minnesota and completed the Ph.D. at Wis consin in 1954. A full professor before leaving Penn State, he was technical leader there of an agen cy for International Development study program in rural commun ity work involving students of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Copp is president of the Rural Sociological Society, member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and an American Sociological Association fellow. The Minnesota native grew up on a family dairy and grain farm near Thief River Falls. He is married and has five children.
