Baylor, TIRR and A&M have been cooperating for several years in the field of biomedical engi neering and have developed for mal affiliation agreements in this area. This program is another tangible example of a state uni versity, private medical college and private specialized health care facility cooperating in and sharing the responsibility for im proving the quality of life of the sick and disabled. Baylor and A&M recently announced plans for other extensive affiliation agreements for further additional proposed joint activities. A&M students donate $100 to Mental Health Center A $100 donation to the Central Brazos Valley Mental Health Center in Bryan was realized by A&M students from the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game here in March. Corps seniors beat a corps jun ior team for the right to select the benefit organization for the $100 Town Hall provided from proceeds of the Globetrotters con test. Town Hall chairman Kirk Hawkins said the corps seniors elected to donate the money to the mental health center in con junction with a project by TAMU senior architecture students. They are remodeling the former St. Joseph’s Hospital for the cen ter. Company L-l was in charge of the student game played before the Trotters’ TAMU Special At traction appearance. Several student organizations have assisted the center. Pro ceeds of the Elephant Bowl game last fall were presented to the center, along with funds the Stu dent Senate donated from the Campus Chest. COMMENT OF A McMAHON GRADUATE In September, 1971 I graduated from McMahon College and imme diately accepted a position as a Court Reporter. Currently I am making $15,000 per year. For a fas cinating career that really pays off, I suggest you look into Court Re porting by contacting McMahon College, 2601 Main, Houston, Texas 77002. Scotty G. Baldwin Chess team wins UofH tournament A&M’s chess team has closed its competition season success fully, with a first-place win at the University of Houston tour nament. A four-man TAMU team, part of the Memorial Student Center Recreation Committee, won six of eight games to capture the rotating championship trophy at Houston. Rice placed second with five wins and three losses. Playing on the A&M team were Dallas Legan of Victoria; Tom Weaver, Corpus Christi; Manas Bandyopadhyay, Calcutt, India, and Charles Cole, Cisco. A matter of life by Gordon Richardson Recently, a friend of mine, who owns a modest manu facturing business, made one of those wry jokes that peo ple are prone to after a par ticularly trying day. If he had any sense, he said, he’d fire himself as president and hire himself as salesman—because his salesmen made out almost as well as he did, with fewer headaches. And one thing was for sure: They had a better pension plan. Well, up until 1966 that last part was literally true. But then came the amendments to the “Self-Employed Indi viduals Tax Retirement Act of 1962", and at least his own personal pension plan is much better now. As far as the headaches are concerned, they're a boss's standard equipment. Incidentally, do you know about this law? It was en acted to enable self-employed individuals to enjoy some of the tax benefits not previously available to them, and it can mean a lot of money to you if you come under its provisions.
