In a recent interview TSEA president Bruce Brant said the purpose of the organization is to provide a focal point for all edu cation majors and sponsor a pro fessional organization in the teaching profession for those in tending to pursue a teaching ca reer. “Membership in TSEA has proved beneficial to students en tering student teaching in local schools,” Brant added. “The stu dent teachers have learned a lot of teaching tips in our TSEA meetings they have been able to put into practice during their stu dent teaching assignments.” The $5 membership fee entitles the TSEA member to many dis counts at department, stores throughout the state. It also pro vides $25,000 liability insurance to cover the teacher during a classroom teaching situation. According to Bi-ant the club makes extensive use of campus speakers. “Wendell Jordan, of the Educational Media Center, gave an outstanding lecture to the club about the importance of audio visual training for future teach ers,” Brant commented. Other speakers who have talked to the club are Dr. Jack Camp bell of the Curriculum and In struction Department and Capt. Mario Macaluso of the Military Department. Brant mentioned he had recent ly returned from the TSEA State Convention which was held in San Antonio. “The TSEA state representatives are very active, frequently giving* the young Tex an’s view on issues in our state and local government,” Brant said. The club is open for membei*- ship to anyone planning to teach, although most of the club’s 97 members are education majors. Dr. Philip Limbacher, an assist ant professor in the Curriculum & Instruction Department, is the faculty adviser for the group. “TSEA has made me more of a professional and has awakened my interest in teaching,” Brant said. The club will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Nagle Hall in Room 113. Officers for next year will be elected. KK’s are human, too By C. DAVID STASNY If the A&M police were inhu man and went strictly by the book, officer Wesley Quitta said, “we’d have every Aggie in jail.” Quitta, 21 and married, joined the KK on Jan. 3. In a recent in terview he blamed the current negative opinion of the police on a lack of communication. “After a student has had deal ings with us, his attitude usually changes,” he said. “I think they ought to try to meet us. I think they will find we’re not such cut throats.” He said a student under 21 found with alcohol is almost al ways given the choice of pouring it out in lieu of arrest. Asked if he had taken part in unauthorized searching, he said, “for my part, no.” When finding a suspicious situation, he said, “first thing we’re going to do is get a warrant.” How about harassment of the KK by students ? This comes from “not really a group, just certain individuals,” he said. “They do just because they don’t understand what our job is out here.” He said he didn’t mind the name “pig” except when preced ed by certain unprintable adjec tives. “If they (students) can make you mad, it’s a feather in BATTALION CLASSIFIED FOR SALE Clubs, 2 wood. 628 after 5. irons, S45.
