BRING THE FAMILY, EATING OUT IS FUN. “QUALITY FIRST’’ Aggies win pair; defeat Minnesota By JOHN CURYLO Battalion Sports Editor After rain had cancelled a doubleheader with Minnesota the day before, sunny skies pre vailed Tuesday as the Aggies came through with a twinbill victory here, 4-3 and 8-0, in the season opener for the Big Ten team. A&M is now 11-6 for the year. The Aggies scored once in the second and twice in the third inning, with Minnesota counter ing for a tally in the second and two in the fourth. R. J. Englert bunted his way on base in the fifth inning, advanced on a hit- and-run single by Jim Langford, and scored on an error. Steve Janda was the winner, going three innings and allow ing two hits and one walk while striking out four in his second win against two losses. Charlie Jenkins was the starter, hurling four innings and giving up five hits and three walks and fan ning three. The Aggies exploded for two runs in the third inning and three in each of the next two frames of the second game to dominate the battle, 8-0. Bobby Wittkamp threw six innings of five-hit ball, walking none and striking out three. Ben Sims pitched the seventh inning, walk ing one and allowing no hits. Top hitters for the Aggies in the doubleheader were Ghutz- man, three for six, Englert, three for seven, and Langford and Jim Hacker, two for six. Minnesota helped the cause with two errorq in the first game and four in thfc second. A&M continues Southwest Conference play this weekend in Dallas when they try to improve on their 1-2 record in a Friday doubleheader and a single game Saturday. In a game played Tuesday at Travis Park in Bryan, reserves from the Minnesota squad beat substitutes for the A&M team, 6-3.
