Professorship created in honor of Roy Davi s A $150,000 endowed professor ship established at A&M by the Texas Federation of Cooperatives in honor of Roy B. Davis was created Friday in campus cere monies. Davis, a former board chair man of the National Cotton Coun cil, retired in June as general manager of the Lubbock-based Plains Cooperative Oil Mill, larg est such facility in the world. A&M President Jack Williams assured a luncheon audience fol lowing the formal ceremonies that the professorship will bring improved instruction for develop ing leadership in the betterment of society. “We could not honor a more wonderful man,” he continued, in referring to Davis, one of the na tion’s foremost agricultural lead- this professorship the most out standing professor of agricultur al economics in the nation,” the document stated. The person selected for the professorship will conduct re search and extension work with agricultural cooperatives, in addi tion to his resident teaching as signment, the agreement stipu lates. Davis predicted the professor ship will make a great contri bution to agriculture. James H. Dozier, associate pro fessor of finance, had carried the fight to the Texas Supreme Court where he lost. Courts ruled that persons drawing state pay could not hold an elective office, such as city councilman, even when the sec ond job pays nothing. “I am being forced to resign against my will simply because I cannot support my family any longer without my salary,” said Dozier. The suit was filed in June last year by A. P. Boyett and more than 20 other College Station residents questioning the dual employment, although the city job is payless. They ex pect the drive to net two station wagons full of candy. Church volunteers in Austin sort the candy, Mrs. Robinette noted, and six Santa Clauses dis tribute the goodies and presents Christmas Eve. Some of the candy is used in speech therapy classes as re wards, with hard candy a good tongue exerciser, she added.
