Pag-e 8 College Station, Texas Wednesday, October 13, 1071 THE BATTALION Aggie linebacker Grady Hoermann considers himself luckj , have a lot of luck and Grady Hoermann ■ WE By BILL HENRY Assistant Sports Editor Texas A&M’s left linebacker, Grady Hoermann, junior from Seguin, may be the seventh son of a seventh son but he doesn’t feel like it’s been bad luck for him. Hoermann, 5-11, 202, was all- state at Seguin High, made the all-SWC freshman team two years ago and leads the Aggies this year in tackles with 65. Hoermann, one of the gems of the touted Aggie defense, isn’t over-enthusiastic about his new role as tackling leader. “All I am now is hot,” he said. “Another thing is that I have a great defensive line in front of me to keep the blockers from cutting me off from the ball car rier. If it wasn’t for Boice Best, Max Bird and Bill Wiebold play ing in the line in front of me, I probably wouldn’t be anywhere near leading the team in tackles. Those guys do a great job of blocking their men at the line of scrimmage.” With all the praise the defense is getting, Grady is the first to take a pessimistic view on the success thus far. “The defense didn’t play so well against Tech last Saturday,” he said. “We stopped them a couple of times but we didn’t a couple of other times when we really needed to.” Having started last year and (his year, Hoermann compared the two squads. “Last year we were pretty good individually,” he said. “This year we are playing together. I guess pulling together and knowing our job are the big differences this year, and of course a little moie experience. The bad thing, how ever, is that we are playing good football and still losing.” Grady also has some observa tions on the big controversy be tween the offense and the defense that is being discussed by many people. “On defense, if one person makes a mistake you’ve got 10 other people to back you up and cover for your mistakes,” Grady explained. “If you mess up on offense, everybody can see where the error took place and who did it. There is no way to cover up any mistakes on offense, it’s just right there in public view.” “We are not capitalizing on any of our breaks,” he said. “To be a good football team, you must have a lot of luck and be i good physically.” Grady elaborated on wt, at | meant by breaks with exau| from the Tech game last $a| day. “Tech fumbled six times, lost only one, Hoermann ( plained. “We fumbled four! and lost it all four times. T*1 our passes were intercepted returned for a score. W e J cepted two of their passes, none resulted in any score," Vol. GIVE tmm \£m OP9ECIM 1 snrxK>iP>s I W GIVE MM \M I GReeisi LSTA**1R3 J ?:i G^ECfM m\ OWEersi lanrASs4i=>3 I tigs GIVE m\ OF9EEISI [arrAtwiF>s I SHOP AT YOUR FRIENDLY PIGMY WIGGLY snyc mon£Y! shye sreoips; TBRirT'B'Girr Tenn Vegetables — Cut Corn, Green Peas, Peas & Carrots, Squash — 20-Oz.
