11 cadets receive lieutenant’s bars Eleven Texas A&M cadets were commissioned Air Force and Marine Corps officers Thursday and Friday. Receiving the gold bar as Air Force officers were 2nd Lts. Stephen C. Bell of Albuquerque, N. M.; Steven E. Clark, San Augustine; Cecil L. Dukes, La Feria; Thomas H. Gross, Fort Worth. Also, Stephen A. Henry, College Station; Michael T. Krampitz, Fort Knox, Ky.; Robert M. Lowry III, Alexandria, Va.; Richard J. Rynearson, Decatur, and Michael L. Wiebe, San Antonio. Marine officers are Clifford W. Brown, Lake Jackson, and Steven T. Nichols, Crystal Lake, 111. The new officers completed degree and commissioning require ments this summer. A&M’s Aerospace Studies Department offered senior Air Force ROTC courses for this summer, enabling the mid-year commissioning. Six other officers were commissioned in July after the first summer session. The oath was administered and bars presented by Col. Robert F. Crossland, professor of aerospace studies and ranking Air Force officer at A&M. Three of the newly commissioned officers have orders for their first active duty assignments. All but one of the other six are waiting assignment. Rynearson has been given an education delay to stay at Texas A&M for master’s degree work in aerospace engineering. Expected to complete the 18- month technical school next week are Saturino Corpio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Corpio, 220 Mon terrey St.; Billy T. Fields, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lee Fields, 3908 W. 28th St.; Norvin Froeh- ling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Froehling, of Rt. 1, Box 82, and Richard Horn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Horn, Route 2, Box I.Ed. faculty gains member Dr. Max C. Farning of Minne sota will join Texas A&M’s Indus trial Education Department this fall as a nassistant professor, Dr. James L. Boone announced. The department head said Dr. Farning, with a strong research background, will assist industrial education doctoral students in research design in addition to teaching. A&M President Dr. Jack K. Williams holds $3,500 in annual scholarship checks to the University from Sun Oil Company, presented by F. G. Prutzman of Houston, regional Sun official. 154. Courses are completed in com munications, telemetry, computer science, process control, automa tion, instrumentation and nuclear science, he said. Sun Oil Co. gives TAMU $3,500 gift Sun Oil Company Tuesday pre sented its annual aid-to-educa- tion scholarship grants to Texas A&M with four departments benefitting from the $3,500 gift. The Petroleum Engineering De partment received three of the $500 scholarships with two schol arships going to Chemical Engi neering and one each to Geology and Oceanography. The Ocean ography Department was added to the list of A&M recipients this year. “We are grateful for this con tinued confidence in our pro grams,” A&M President Dr. Jack K. Williams said in accepting the checks from F. G. Prutzman of Houston. “We will use the funds in a way to benefit the industry and the people of Texas.” Prutzman is regional manager of the Gulf Coast Region of Sun’s Production Department. He was accompanied by J. L. Cain of Dallas, supervisor of college relations in the company’s Hu man Resources Department. The Sun officials were guests of the University at a luncheon in the Memorial Student Center following the presentation cere monies. Guests included Dr. John C.
