Sen. Mike Mansfield, the Demo cratic leader, said the caucus was flexible, specifying no date for withdrawal, but calling for Pres ident Nixon to act “in a time certain.” <i: . . The Montanan said no imple menting legislation will be con sidered in the immediate future. Sen. John Stennis, D-Miss., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Sen. Henry Jackson, D-Wash., a senior committee member, reportedly spent much of the two-hour cau cus debate arguing for deletion of the last four words of the resolution that read: “To end the involvement in Indochina and to bring about the withdrawal of all U.S. forces and the release of all prisoners in a time certain.” “It’s the Hatfield - McGovern amendment all over again,” Jack- son said afterward. “I don't think you can have a date certain and bring this war to an orderly con clusion.” ... -The Sejiate last year rejected an amendment by Sens. Mark O. Hatfield, R-Ore., and George Mc Govern, D-S.D., requiring with drawal by the end of 1971, but it has been reintroduced. Sen. Hugh Scott, the Republi can leader, said the resolution is vague, but politically acceptable to the several possible Demo cratic presidential contenders. “To set a date would have frag mented the candidacies,” he said. Oceanography acquires 88-foot research vessel A&M, the state’s only institu tion of higher learning with sea going capabilities, has acquired a third oceanographic research ship. The newest addition to the fleet is the R/V Leprechaun, an 88- foot vessel donated by Emmet Vaughey of Jackson, Miss. Dr. Richard A. Geyer, head of the university’s Oceanography Department, said arrangements for the gift were made through E. L, Wehner of Houston, an A&M graduate. The Leprechaun is berthed at Texas A&M’s new Mitchell Cam pus on Pelican Island in Galves ton. In addition to being used for instructional purposes, Dr. Geyer said the craft will be used for research in shallow offshore waters, as well as in bays and estuaries. He pointed out the ship will be the Oceanography Department's second to be used primarily in programs associated with coastal zone, ecological baseline and en vironmental problems. The R/V Orca, a 100-foot vessel acquired last year, is currently being util ized for such projects. The department’s third ship, the 186-foot R/V Alaminos, is used almost exclusively for cruises of long duration and deep water operations. Dr. Geyer said the Leprechaun will accomodate 15 persons, in cluding the scientific party and crew. Dr. Geyer said the ship will also be outfitted with various -oceanographic installations and related electronic instruments. The Oceanography Department has acquired a third research vessel, the 88-foot Leprechaun, shown here tied up at the institution’s new Mitchell Campus in Galveston. ^ Aggie Players begin ‘Ghosts’ rehearsal mm W0 00 lemseta hey pad e one pit- j shouli that ma; lore that hoto) ;hree dime ies, ande h.
