Texas and the South are the worst.” She confirmed what most boys have known for years—“girls get picked up much quicker than boys do.” For example, she said it took her only “two traveling days to get from Lubbock to New York.” ★ ★ ★ According to an article in the SMU paper, The Daily Campus, Jesse Jackson, speaking to blacks and whites in Dallas, said, “we are all in the belly of a whale, a big white whale, a killer whale . . . Moby Dick Nixon.” Jackson, national chairman of Operation Breadbasket, said he thinks the real enemies to the blacks are themselves. “The real enemies are uncles, sons, and fathers,” he said. “Know you ene my. Get off each other’s backs.” He said of the great white whale, “He is not a mean whale. He is a sick whale.” He added that no matter what a person believes in, what color he is, whether rich or poor, that all persons are in the whale’s belly. “Whether you believe in the whale’s system or not is irrele vant.” He says there have always been more white folks on welfare than blacks. “The reason is that wel fare came into existence for white folks.” To defeat the whale he says, “We’ve got economic power. The wise use of our dollar will make that whale do funny things.” The UT Health Center now has the Unwanted Pregnancy Coun seling Service “which dispenses firm professional comfort and supplies accurate medical, legal and practical advice” to univer sity women who are often in “complicated and bewildered tur moil” after being diagnosed as pregnant. Dr. Paul Trickett, health center director and gynecologist, explain ed how the health center’s ap proach is unique: “The counseling is done in an expert medical en vironment. Complete professional psychological and psychiatric aid and advice are offered to each woman. All alternatives not just abortion, are explained, and wom en are educated about pregnancy and birth control.” According to the director of the health service, intensely emo tional women “often have the fear that at any moment during a se cret abortion, someone may burst in and say, ‘Aha—what’s going on here!’ ” Day students can get rooms Students living off campus who want to reserve a residence hall room for the 1971 spring semes ter should go by the Housing Of fice and do so before Dec. 8, Housing Manager Allas M.
