Mike Lord returns to scene of high school days P| It’s not easy to get a good Louisiana football player away from LSU, especially one from Baton Rouge, home of the Tigers. But, Texas A&M did just that, md junior linebacker Mike Lord will be a key performer for the Aggies when they play LSU in Baton Rouge Saturday night. Lord, who calls defensive sig nals for the Aggies from his middle linebacker post, was an All-State halfback safety at Broadmoor High in Baton Rouge. Coach Gene Stallings liked the way Lord hit opposing players so moved him to linebacker. Hampered by an injury early last year, Lord came on fast to win a starting berth for the final three games of his sophomore season. Last week, in the 41-14 win over Wichita State, Lord was a ky figure on defense. Once, Wichita decided to run on a iourfh-and-one situation and Lord combined with end James Dubcack to spill the ball carrier for a one-yard loss. His first “homecoming’' last Fear was most forgettable. The Aggies lost, 35-6, and Lord was ikle to play only three series due to a pulled muscle. This year Hike thinks it will be different. “I think that having already played a game will be a big help, especially for our younger play ers. It’s tough to start a season lefore that LSU crowd. I don’t think it bothered me because I Blew what to expect. I knew that tiger cage was going to be there outside our dressing room.” Does this game mean anything extra to Lord? “You bet!”, he “There is a lot of extra Jcentive. I know a lot of the LSU players and lot of my high school friends go to school there.” Despite going to high school in Baton Rouge, Lord doesn’t really consider himself a Louisi anian. He was born in Fort Worth, Tex., and his parents moved back to Fort Worth a year ago. What Stallings really did when he recruited Lord was bring a native Texan back home. Lord thinks the Wichita State game was a big help for him in preparing for LSU. “It was my first game calling defensive sig nals, and I needed that experi ence.” With that extra experience and incentive, Mike Lord is looking forward to a happy “homecom ing” this week. And happiness can only come from a win. 64 Mike Lord RPRIS the <na a , who. facea .. .o conduct a mystei de bus. With the help of er publicity, customers pc ney begins.
