Perry, civilian stu dent activities director, has been honored as the top graduate in a five-year course of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Perry, a Reserve Army lieu tenant colonel with almost 29 years of service, was presented the John J. Pershing Award, given annually since 1962 to the top man in each course. Perry won the award by rank ing at the top of a class of 360 in the command and general staff residence-nonresidence course. It involved two weeks instruction at Leavenworth for the last five summers and study at home the remainder of the year. The award was inaugurated eight years ago in honor of the former General of the Army, John J. Pershing, who first for malized non-residence instruction for reserve officers. A 1944 Aggie graduate, Perry studied logistics, tactics and ma jor unit employment commensur ate with duties of officers at division and higher level. He was commissioned through officer candidate school, served as an infantry platoon leader through battalion commander in the Pacific during World War II. Glasgow today at Assistant Secretary of Interior Leslie L. Glasgow will be lead speaker for the three-day 8th annual Right of Way Educational Seminar starting here today. Dr. Glasgow, a Ph.D. wildlife management graduate of Texas A&M, opens the conference on a panel discussion entitled “Envi ronmental Considerations: Land- Water-Air.” The former Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission direc tor will discuss the land aspects at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Stu dent Center Ballroom. Hugh Yantis of Austin, execu tive director of the Texas Water Quality Board, will speak on Perry completed his Pacific tour as troop movement officer for the Okinawa base command. He was sixth out of a class of 200 in an advanced engineer of ficers course and has participated in several field grade armor and engineer officers refresher courses. He currently instructs the USAR advanced officer’s course at the U. S. Army Reserve Armory, Bryan. The officer also commanded a local engineering National Guard unit. Perry became civilian student activities director last September. The reserve officer who received the master’s degree here in 1955 has been affiliated with the uni versity since he enrolled in 1940. After several years teaching in Brenham, he joined the A&M staff in 1950 as a military coun selor and become residence hall program advisor in 1968. to speak seminar water and T. R. Samsell of Wash ington, D. C., Continental Oil Co.’s environmental conservation director, will discuss air. Dr. David R. Levin, director of the Office of Right of Way and Location Department, Washing ton, D. C., will serve as panel moderator for a question-answer session following the speakers. The conference is presented by Region 2 of the American Right of Way Association (ARWA) and is sponsored by the Texas Trans portation Institute. ARWA Region 2 Chairman Ory G.
