They are left to right: Curtis Mills, Marvin Mills, Harold McMahan, and Don Kellar. (Photo by Mike Wright) “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” won the academy award Tuesday for song of the year and it is very ironic that its singer, B. J. Thomas, did a lot of his early living in Houston. Sounded like he knew what he was singing about because again rain will dampen everything about the Aggies’ triangular track meet Saturday with Rice and Texas in the Bayou City. Although the track will be wet, the A&M tracksters cannot af ford to be if they hope to keep up their momentum for the Southwest Conference Meet scheduled for May 1 and 2, that is, if it is not rained out. The Cadets are riding the crest of three school records set last weekend in the Texas Relay carnival in Austin. The 880 relay unit of Donny Rogers, Rpckie Woods, Marvin Mills and Curtis Mills tied the world mark of 1:22.1, which was set by San Jose State in 1967. The other two school marks came in the 440-yard hurdles where Don Kal- lar blazed to a 50.6 clocking and in the mile relay where Kellar, Harold McMahan, and the Mills brothers ran a 3:08.4. They also set a new Texas Relays mark in the 440-yard re lay where Scott Hendricks, Woods and the Mills again were timed in 39.7. The A&M school record is 39.5, set last season by three of this crew. Baseball Series Postponed By Mike Wright The Texas Aggies are back to their old ways of making rain as this weekend’s crucial three-game series with Rice University has been postponed until Monday and Tuesday. Bruce Katt was to have start ed the first game of the double- header on Friday and Dave Benesh was scheduled to work the night cap. They will now make up the twin-bill on Mon day at 1:30 with Saturday’s game planned for Tuesday after noon at 3. Lefty Doug Rau will pitch the Tuesday affair. The Aggies are currently 6-0 and atop the standings. Texas trails A&M by one-half game at 5-0. The surprising Owls are in third place with a 5-1 record. The Owls jumped into the midst of things with a three game sweep over Texas Tech and with two wins over Texas Chris tian. ing a shutout in his only confer ence outing, Katt leads the staff with a 0.00 earn run average, Benesh has allowed one earned run in 20 innings for a 0.45 clip and Rau has given up two runs in 21 innings for 0.86. In 50 innings the Aggies have given up 29 hits, three earned runs, 11 walks, 62 strikeouts for a combined earn run average of 0.54. A rundown of the events shows that the Aggies have performed well enough to capture most of the first places should they do as well in the SWC meet in May. Sammy Skinner has run a 4:13.7 mile thus far and could pick up points in that, Curtis Mills has raced to a 46.4 in the 440-yard dash, far off his world’s record of 44.7 but fast enough to take the first place. Marvin Mills and Woods, last year’s winner, both have been clocked in 9.6 for the 100 yard dash while Marvin has the fastest SWC mark for the 220 yard dash with a 21.2. Marc Black has thrown the javelin 211-5 ^ for the third best mark in the conference and Ron nie Lightfoot has the lead in both the shot put and the discus. Marvin Taylor at 6-9, John Tay lor at 6-8 and Ben Greathouse at 6-7 control the high jump. Either you’re letting life carry you along its bumpy road, just shrugging your shoulders and "making the best of it” ... or you’ve discovered the secret of making the BEST of life by choosing God’s way and letting Him do the steering. Wednesday Psalms 19:7-14 It isn’t really a secret. Anyone can find it if he searches with complete sincerity. Through prayer, through regular church attendance, through Bible reading, the answers will come if we persevere. Gradually we will accept God’s plan for us and understand the full, triumphant meaning of the words of Jesus: "Nothing shall by any means hurt you.” There is no voyage of discovery more exciting or chal lenging than this one. And our God-guided efforts will bring us to the BEST of life ... a reward greater than any worldly goal we could name. fl Copyright 1970 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Va.
