Aggie Wrestlers Pin Horns
The Texas A&M tennis team
suffered its fifth loss in 11 dual
matches Monday in a hard-fought
battle against Louisiana State
University in Baton Rouge, 5-4.
LSU, one of the most highly
rated Southeastern Conference
teams, and the Aggies played a
close match that saw 5 of 9
matches go three sets before a
winner was decided.
A&M was playing without their
number two man Mike Hickey
who has been out with the flu.
Results of the match were:
Singles:
Steve Faulk, LSU, def. Dickie
Fikes, A&M, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
Tommy Ducrest, LSU, def.
Bruce Crumley, A&M, 6-4, 6-3,
6-4.
Lindsey Kroll, A&M, def. Jere
Overdyke, LSU, 8-6, 9-7.
Joe Kelly, LSU, def. David
Chastain, A&M, 6-3, 6-8, 6-3.
Mike Mills, A&M, def. Max
Begue, LSU, 8-6, 6-3.
Lawton Park, A&M, def. Ted
Bourg, 1.SU, 6-3, 6-3.
Doubles:
Steve Faulk and Tommy Du
crest, LSU, def. Fikes and Chas
tain, A&M, 4-6, 6-3, 8-6.
Lindsey Kroll and Lowton Park,
A&M, def. Jere Overdyke and
Bourg, LSU, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Max Begue and Ted Bougr,
LSU, def. Mike Mills and Carl
Jaedikce, A&M, 6-4, 6-3.
The A&M Wrestlers, who lost
to Texas in their last meeting,
defeated them here Saturday 25-
15.
Glenn Burt received five points
for A&M because Texas was un
able to field a wrestler in the
118-pound class. Terry Pritchard
wrestled a very fine match for
the Aggies but lost by decision.
John Paul Jones, 134-pounder, led
his opponent until the last period
when he lost the bout by decision
7-6. At 142, Mike Snyder was de-
cisioned 6-1. Gary Leverett, at
150 pounds, lost a tough contest
5-0.
But Andy Beck, the team cap
tain, made fast work of his match,
pinning his opponent in a fast 52
seconds. At 167, Jerry Chapin
who has not as yet been scored
one, completely dominated his
opponent to take an 18-0 lead in
the third period. He then pinned
him with 30 seconds left in the
match.
David Herzik, an Aggie junior
at 177, wrestled a very close
match that went against him
8-6, tying the score 15-15. At 190,
A1 Leskinen failed to get a take
down in the first period.
At heavyweight the team is
now represented by Merril Ham,
a sophomore. Merril got his take
down in the first period and a
reversal in the second. It was
early in the second period that
Merril pinned his opponent for
the Aggies’ final five points, and
the final score was 25-15.
