LSU, one of the most highly rated Southeastern Conference teams, and the Aggies played a close match that saw 5 of 9 matches go three sets before a winner was decided. A&M was playing without their number two man Mike Hickey who has been out with the flu. Results of the match were: Singles: Steve Faulk, LSU, def. Dickie Fikes, A&M, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Tommy Ducrest, LSU, def. Bruce Crumley, A&M, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Lindsey Kroll, A&M, def. Jere Overdyke, LSU, 8-6, 9-7. Joe Kelly, LSU, def. David Chastain, A&M, 6-3, 6-8, 6-3. Mike Mills, A&M, def. Max Begue, LSU, 8-6, 6-3. Lawton Park, A&M, def. Ted Bourg, 1.SU, 6-3, 6-3. Doubles: Steve Faulk and Tommy Du crest, LSU, def. Fikes and Chas tain, A&M, 4-6, 6-3, 8-6. Lindsey Kroll and Lowton Park, A&M, def. Jere Overdyke and Bourg, LSU, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Max Begue and Ted Bougr, LSU, def. Mike Mills and Carl Jaedikce, A&M, 6-4, 6-3. The A&M Wrestlers, who lost to Texas in their last meeting, defeated them here Saturday 25- 15. Glenn Burt received five points for A&M because Texas was un able to field a wrestler in the 118-pound class. Terry Pritchard wrestled a very fine match for the Aggies but lost by decision. John Paul Jones, 134-pounder, led his opponent until the last period when he lost the bout by decision 7-6. At 142, Mike Snyder was de- cisioned 6-1. Gary Leverett, at 150 pounds, lost a tough contest 5-0. But Andy Beck, the team cap tain, made fast work of his match, pinning his opponent in a fast 52 seconds. At 167, Jerry Chapin who has not as yet been scored one, completely dominated his opponent to take an 18-0 lead in the third period. He then pinned him with 30 seconds left in the match. David Herzik, an Aggie junior at 177, wrestled a very close match that went against him 8-6, tying the score 15-15. At 190, A1 Leskinen failed to get a take down in the first period. At heavyweight the team is now represented by Merril Ham, a sophomore. Merril got his take down in the first period and a reversal in the second. It was early in the second period that Merril pinned his opponent for the Aggies’ final five points, and the final score was 25-15.
