Niles pulled down nine rebounds and scored eight points before fouling out with 8:10 left to play. (Photo by Mike Wright) Aggie Fish Clobber TJC For Eighth Win Of Year By Clifford Broyles Battalion Sports Writer The Texas Aggie Fish roared to a 15-2 margin in the first four minutes of the second half here Tuesday night to provide the booster they needed to whip the Temple Junior College Leopards 87-69. The Fish playing a sluggish first half managed a 39-34 half time lead despite 11 turnovers. Their largest lead in the first half was 10 but a surge by Temple brought them to within a point at 31-30 and again at 33-32. The Fish used some clutch of fensive rebounding to produce what amounted to a pair of three point plays before intermission. Bob Gobin pulled down the first carom after Bryan Metzger had connected on the first shot of two free throws. Gobin swished the nets with a short hook and presto, a three point play. Wayne Howard pulled down the next big rebound after Gobin had made the first of a pair. The Houston Memorial grad drilled in the rebound try and the Fish had a quick five point lead which they carried to the dressing room. Howard paced the fish in the first half with 12 points and ten rebounds. The Aggies came out swinging in the second half and added a man-to-man press to dazzle the Leopards and by the time the Aggies were through with their spurt the contest was practically out of Temple’s reach. The Fish pulled to a twenty point lead on several occasions in the second half and the closest the Leopards could get in the fi nal 15 minutes was 14 points. The outside shooting of Temple guard Danny Allie was the only thing keeping the Leopards in the respectable column in the second half as he drilled in 18 points in the final half and fin ished with 22 points to pace the Leopards. Howard led the Fish in scoring for the game with 26 points and closed with 15 rebounds. Jeff Overhouse scored 16 points and led Aggie rebounders with 16. Bill O’Brien and Bob Gobin joined that duo in double-figures with 13 and 10 respectively. Charlie Jenkins with 9, Bryan Metzger with 8 and Ron Eeten with 5 rounded out the Fish scor ing. A&M controlled the back boards 59-41 and outshot the vis itors 43.8 to 40.0% to overcome a ballhandling deficiency of 19 turnovers to 13 for TJC. The Fish, now 8-1, will battle one of the top junior college quin tets in the nation next Tuesday night when they host Christian College of the Southwest in the preliminary game for the A&M 1 Arkansas clash.
