He added that a strong co operation between state and local government is needed if this pro gram is to succeed. Dies commended State Senator Bill Moore of Bryan and State Rep. Bill Presnal for the strong representation that they have given the people of Brazos Coun ty in getting bills like this passed. He added that the comparative ly small B-CS community hadn’t been forgotten by the Smith ad ministration. He said that the administration was working to create a program that would help small communities to find the types of industry that would fit their needs. Dies closed his speech by de nouncing the radicals that are protesting in this country. “The long-haired outfits who march on our campuses and gov ernments, and denounce our coun try, should leave it,” Dies said. He added that if they didn’t have the fare the State of Texas should pay it. Editor: “Esprit de Corps, Sweat, and ‘Good Bull’ Produced a Bonfire,” is the title of an article in the recent Review (Jan. ’70) that in sulted every civilian that worked on the ’69-’70 Aggie bonfire. That the Corps was entirely responsi ble for building the bonfire is all that can be derived from this ar ticle. The article described the work being done which had the “earmarks of a military maneu ver.” It also mentioned “Corps companies and squadi’ons” being assigned cutting areas, but not once did it mention the workers that the civilian dorms provided. Those that were present during the construction, either as spec tators or workers, know that there were many people working in the cutting and stacking areas, and that not all of them were in the Corps. Corps Aggies, civilian Aggies, as well as many female Aggies, that took cookies and cof fee to the bonfire guards, and others were all responsible for building the Aggie bonfire. Clear ly, “Esprit de Corps . . . .” should have read “Esprit de Aggies . . . .” for anly the undying spirit of many hard working Aggies, Corps and civilian, could have built such a successful Aggie bonfire.
