This week Slade, who engineer ed Davidson’s brilliant 37-7 upset over Richmond, Southern Confer ence defending champion, was named offensive Back of the Week by The Associated Press. The 6-foot-l, 196-pounder from Evansville, Ind., completed 32 of 43 passes for 285 yards, scored three touchdowns and passed for the other two as Davidson, long a weakling in the conference, emerged on top of the league. Behind Slade’s passing, Da vidson has won four games this season against no losses, some thing no other Wildcat team has done since 1927. The other vic tories have been over Guilford, 21-8; Furman, 77-14; and Trin ity, 17-16. Mike Faulkner at weak tackle, Fred Placke at weak guard, Rob ert Gerasimowicz at center, Bus ter Callaway at strong guard, Herman Mauch at strong tackle and Homer May at tight end. In the backfield the Fish will have Lex James at quarterback, Raymond Peak at tailback, Jim my Aycock at fullback, and Tom my Goodwin at wingback. The Fish defenses will line up Ralph Sacra at left end, Butch Kamps at left guard, Boice Best at right guard, Gary Martin at right end, and Kent Findley at rover. Linebackers will be Greg Hall at strongside linebacker* Gary (McCaffrey in the middle linebacker slot, and Grady Hoer- mann at weakside linebacker. The secondary will have Robert Mur- ski and Gary Whitehead at half backs and Brad Dusek at safety. Peak led the Fish rushers against the Wogs with 56 yards in 16 carries while Jimmy Ay- cock has 41 yards in 13 carries and a touchdown. James completed 9 of 28 against the Wogs for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He made a fantastic catch be tween two TCU players just be fore the half for a 49-yard touch down strike. The other aerial strike was scored by reserve split end Glenn McNatt, a 24-yarder from James. The Fish secondary enjoyed a very productive night against the Wogs as they picked off five TCU passes. Dusek grabbed two aerials to lead the Fish pass thieves. He returned one of the interceptions for 35 yards. Hoer- mann, Murski, and Finley also have an interception to their cred it. Dusek is also handling the punting for the Fish. He has av eraged 33.8 yards on 10 kicks. The Fish rolled up a total of fense of 354 yards against the Wogs. The majority of the yard age came in the first half as the Wog defense shut down the Fish quite effectively in the second half. Penalties also plagued the Fish against the Wogs. They were guilty of 15 violations for a total of 147 yards. Following the Baylor game the Fish will have three games re maining. On October 30 the Fish will travel to Houston to take on the Owlets in Rice Stadium. No vember 6th they will close out their home schedule against Tex as Tech.
