S. With veterinary medicine no longer restricted to ‘doctoring’ farm animals, but rather a pro fession which has grown into many facets to meet man’s needs, the symposium will be strictly academic. The first symposium in 1964 was held at Michigan State Uni versity where curriculums and teaching techniques were dis cussed. Clinical education was debated in the second symposium at the University of Georgia a year later. In 1966, the meeting returned to Michigan State where educa tors looked at preprofessional veterinary education. GAINING IN stature, this year’s symposium is cooperative ly sponsored by nine veterinary organizations. They include the Association of American Veter inary Medical Colleges, AVMA Council on Education, AVMA Council on Research, the Ameri can Board of Veterinary Public Health, the American Board of Veterinary Radiology, the Ameri can Board of Veterinary Toxicol ogy, The American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists, and the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Sessions are set in the Memor ial Student Center March 24-25. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., said coordinator Dr. William W. Bay. KEYNOTER for the two-day meeting is Dr. Hilliard Jason, director, Office of Medical Edu cation, Research and Develop ment, College of Human Medi cine, Michigan State University. Other major speakers and their topics are Dr. Vincent E. Price, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md., “Extrapolations from Medical Education to Vet erinary Medical Education;” Dr. Ivan L. Bennett, Science and Technology, Executive Office of the President, Washington, D. C., “Postdoctoral Medical Education in the Future,” and Dr. George Christensen, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Iowa State University, “The Future of Post doctoral Education in Veterinary Medical Education.” Grad Lectures Slated For Science Topics Three graduate lectures, all sci entific, are scheduled this week.
