Page 2 College Station, Texas Thursday, January 16, 1969 THE BATTALION Listen Up the batt forum Editor, The Battalion: This is in reply to fish Mc Queen’s letter in Tuesday’s is sue. He stated that Texas A&M is built on tradition and that he is worried about what type of people will be attracted to A&M. I am opposed to his attitude for these reasons: • The fish haircut was not banned, but only modified. Ex tremely short haircuts and “white sidewalls” were banned. This serves to improve the Corps’ over all appearance. • Fish McQueen stated that A&M is built on tradition. True, to some extent; but in an article concerning semester schedule changes Tuesday, Dr. Horace R. Byers, academic vice-president, was quoted as saying “A&M is characterized by progress. . . We never make changes for the sake of change, however.” It seems progress is an important part of tradition. • There is no need to worry about what type of people will be attracted to \&M and the Corps. Whatever he was before, a person who leaves the Corps is a man who has been taught re sponsibility, maturity, ambition etc. This goes for the university as a whole, also. • Last year I attended a ban quet at which the speaker (an Aggie Ex) said many Exes have CADET SLOUCH by Jim Earle attempted to dispel the typical Aggie “connotation.” In jokes and cartoons the Aggie usually ap pears as a “big dumb ox” with a “bald head.” Banning fish hair cuts will help change this image. Each individual must “do it” and “put out” for the Aggies. (Note: the administration can help im prove our image by suppressing such publications as 101 Aggies Jokes, Vols. I and II.) Many Aggie traditions have al ready left imprints on my mind and heart — Twelfth Man, Yell Practice, and especially Silver Taps. I know this letter is long, but I ask that you print it for an Aggie who is damn proud to be a student at Texas A&M. John C. Butler ’71 ★ ★ ★ Editor, The Battalion: With numerous political organi zations vying for on-campus rec ognition, another is due its say. I am interested in starting a Ho Chi Minh Fan Club, for all persons interested in learning more about this great revolution ary hero of the Vietnamese people —the “George Washington” of Vietnam. All Ho Chi Minh fans, Corps or civilian, should call me at 845-1980. Lynn Ziegler Any remarks concerning this proposal should be addressed to Mr. Ziegler — not to The Bat talion. —Ed. GIBBS (Continued From Page 1) “I think I’m ready for finals if I can get someone to carry me to class!” Board of Directors and the Board decides whether to review the de cision or to accept it as recom mended. For the convenience of students, faculty and staff who have an interest in the proceedings, uni versity officials said a copy of the faculty report, along with a copy cf the complete transcript of the hearing, will be placed in the library as soon as the ma terial has been duplicated.
