In addition to practice in using arm and hand signals, the Ranger Company cadets learned to move through thick brush with a rifle and minimum noise. Shooting Deaths Cause Absence Of Toy Weapons Busline Offers Holiday Rides To Two Cities Chartered transportation will be offered to A&M students go ing to Dallas or Houston for the Christmas holidays. Sam Enloe of Greyhound Bus Lines said posters “went up over the weekend on campus” calling attention to the services. “If a sufficient number of stu dents desire the services of a chartered bus, it will leave cam pus Friday, Dec. 20, at noon,” Enloe added. Dean of Students James Han- nigan said he’d like “to see Ag gies use more public transporta tion” during the holidays. Hannigan pointed out “a mini mum of 32 students must sign up for any one trip,” to make travel economically feasible. Hannigan said administration officials hoped Greyhound would be successful in its bid to pro vide public transportation for students. He noted there are “too many traffic accidents” and feels “stu dents using public transportation would help ease traffic problems, especially during the holidays.” Enloe said ticket sales will be handled through temporary of fices in the MSC through Friday morning. NEW YORK (A*) — American parents are rejecting toy guns and war toys as Christmas pres ents for their children in a re action against violence in the country. The shooting deaths this year of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the continuing war ip Vietnam, and violence in the streets are cited as reasons for the absence of toy weapons from some stores. A survey of 60 stores in 13 states showed sharp declines in the sale of toy guns. In Columbus, Ohio, Helena, Mont, and Dallas, Tex., decreases of up to 25 per cent have been reported. MANY STORES have also stopped promoting and advertis ing war toys. At E. J. Korvettes on New York’s Fifth Avenue, for example, the plastic M16 marauder—“50 shots without caps” — and the shorty machine guns are shunted off to a corner of the sales floor. “We don’t encourage people to buy weapons,” said Jospeh Feld man, executice director of Pitts burgh’s Golden Triangle Associ ation, with a membership of more than 200 stores. “The idea is to learn to live together.” “We have felt a reaction against toys of violence from parents and have directed our buying away from this area,” said a spokesman for Dayton’s, a Min neapolis department store. Several Sears Roebuck stores received letters of commendation from parents since the chain stop ped advertising war toys in its catalogue. Councilman Sworn In At CC Meeting City Councilman-elect C. H. Ransdell was sworn in by Mayor D. A. Anderson at the College Station City Council meeting Fri day. Ransdell defeated Joseph Mc- Graw by a vote of 443 to 339 for the unexpired term of the late T. R. (Nikkie) Holleman. Al though not official candidates for the vacancy, Don Dale re ceived six votes and a Mrs. Calla han received one. In other city business, the coun cil agreed to employ Ernest L. Brown, vice president of Moroney, Brissner and Co. Inc. of Houston, as the city’s financial advisoi with a five year contract. Finally the city awarded a con tract fop twe fire trucks to Hous ton Fire Safety Equipment for a bid of $69,976 with 200 working days.
