Ransdell, assistant dean of Engineering, won in a close election Saturday over Joseph McGraw, professor of urban plan ning, for the vacancy on the Col lege Station city council left va cant by the death of T. R. Holle- man, a professor of architecture. According to the unofficial re turns, Ransdell received 443 votes to McGraw’s 339. Mayor D. A. Anderson also said the election will be officially canvassed at the City Council meeting Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. fol lowing the City Hall Open House. The annual come and go open house will be held between the hours of 2:30 and 5:30 according to Anderson. The Open House is an annual event that goes back many years. The Forum is the result of the reorganization of the Design Stu dents Society, A&M’s student chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The reorganization- al structure was presented and adopted last week at the National Student Forum of the Associate Student Chapter, AIA. The Forum was held on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. “The proposal was received enthusiastically at the conference, as a new concept for student or ganizations to meet the challenge of change,” Edward J. Romieniec, School of Architecture chairman, said. Some 200 students from 60 uni versities and colleges endorsed the proposal which is AIA sup ported. Ford Dealer “It’s a new idea and concept here,” added forum president Steven Bourn, of Dallas, fourth year student. “If other schools want to initiate it in their school that’s fine. It’s a personal choice.” Another fourth year student, Russell King, of Beaumont, added, “I feel other schools will be look ing towards its (forum) prog ress.” He was elected regional director for Texas of student chapters at six universities, dur ing the Ann Arbor conference. Romieniec noted the new struc ture will create “greater dialogue between professionals and stu dents” since the forum is on an interdisciplinary level. King pointed out it “will be more encompassing ... by invit ing university faculty members as well as non-academic participants, related or unrelated, to sessions.” Bourn suggested the possibility that the forum — currently 23 members strong — will eventually form “satelites” or “area interests in housing, health and education, or in any area concerning social, political and economic issues.” Romieniec said the new organi zation “is already important to the school” and will eventually be important to the university. The first meeting of the new group will be held in the School of Architecture at 8 p.m. next Tuesday (Dec. 10). Speaker will be Dallas architect Ross Ramsey, chairman of the Dallas City Plan ning Commission. TechCandidate Needs SWC Voters’Support Editor Bill Seyle of Texas Tech’s University Daily, sponsor of the contest which sent South west Conference Centennial Queen Barbara Specht to the A&M- Texas football game in Austin, has asked students at all South west Conference schools to sup port her in the national contest. The 18-year-old sophomore gov ernment major, daughter of Brig. Gen. (Ret.) and Mrs. M. H. Specht of New Braunfels, Texas, is one of 14 candidates in the national contest, Seyle pointed out. The winner will be chosen by national ballot. The year 1969 marks the 100th anniversary of college football in the United States. “THE BALLOTS must be mail ed by Dec. 18,” Seyle said, “to a national address, and we are hop ing that students in all Southwest Conference universities will sup port Miss Specht so national recognition may be brought to the Southwest Conference. “We are asking that each of the student newspapers will in clude in its current issue a ballot on which students may vote for their preference, and we hope they will support Miss Specht, the Southwest Conference Queen. We think she is deserving of the honor and will represent our con ference admirably.” The national queen and two princesses will be named Dec. 28 at the East-West Shrine game in San Francisco on ABC television. THE WINNER will receive a $1,000 National Collegiate Ath letic Association (NCAA) schol arship and the use of a converti ble for a year. The princesses will receive $500 NCAA scholarships. The pictures of the 14 entries appear in the Dec. 6 issue of Life magazine along with ballots. However, Seyle pointed out, per sons may vote by simply writing their choice on a piece of paper and mailing it to Centennial Queen Contest, Box 1010, Detroit, Mich., 48232. Miss Specht is a five-foot nine- inch tall blonde who boasts a 3.9 grade average and is a twirler with the Texas Tech band. In 1967 she was second runnerup in America’s Junior Miss Pageant as representative from the state of Texas. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority at Tech.
