He also said a bomb was placed in his wife’s automobile last May. The explosive was found while Mrs. McLain was driving on a freeway, but was dismantled and disposed of before it could ex plode. McLain, who won 31 games for the Tigers the past season, talked of the threats at a news confer ence. McLain said he was returning from a television appearance in New York a couple of weeks ago when an airline official told him that a telephoned threat against one of his children had been made. McLain said some of the threat ening telephone calls probably could be attributed to derogatory remarks he made about Detroit fans. Hargett Texas A&M’s Edd Hargett is on the verge of taking over Southwest Conference passing records in career attempts, com pletions, net yardage and touch downs. The Marietta, Tex., senior who played at Linden-Kildare High, needs to complete a nine-yard pass against Arkansas next Sat urday to vault into the all-time SWC lead for passing yardage. He still is 29 completions away from taking over that phase of the records but if he attempts as many as eight passes he will become the throwing-est passer in the league’s history. And, he needs nine more TD passes to reign first in that category. Hargett completed 22 of 49 for 278 yards against Baylor last Saturday night in a 10-9 loss to the Bears. And, although he threw three interceptions, it should be noted that all three hit would-be Aggie receivers be fore bouncing into Baylor hands. With four regular - season games remaining, Hargett in his three-year career at Aggieland has attempted 622 passes. Terry Southall of Baylor is the SWC career leader with 629 attempts. Eight more attempts will put Hargett first. Hargett now has completed 300 BATTALION CLASSIFIED WANT AD RATES i per word 4 per word each additional day Minimum charge—50tf Classified Display 90<t per column inch each insertion DEADLINE 4 p.m. day before publication FOR RENT Room for two girls for Arkansas game. 846-3968. 28t2 Furnished two bedroom house, retiienqes. Trull leads by eight yards with 4,143 and Southall now is third at 4,100. Hargett is third in career touchdown passes with 30. Sam my Baugh of TCU threw for 38 and Bobby Layne of Texas threw for 31. Southall now is fourth with 29. The Aggie quarterback with the quick wrists and scrambling moves would much rather be win ning than setting any individual passing records and his feat against Baylor last Saturday was*, not at all satisfying since the Bears made off with a one-point win. Now with their backs firmly against the wall with a 1-2 rec ord in SWC play, the Aggies will have to fight their greatest bat tle this coming Saturday after noon if they are to retain any hopes of winning or sharing in the crown they won last season. And, one of the big weapons in their offensive attack will be the throwing of Hargett. ATTENTION ALL SENIORS AND GRADUATE STUDENTS! Hur ricanes to minus-85 yards rush ing last week, the Plainsmen moved all the way from 15th to first in rushing defense among the nation’s major college foot ball teams. In fact, Auburn held Miami to the second lowest running figure recorded against a major college in 21 seasons according to the records of the National Collegiate Sports Services.
