New Water Tower
Begins Operations
The million-gallon new water
tower for College Station began
operations Wednesday.
“This should handle the water
needs of the city for the next
20 years,” Ran Boswell, College
Station city manager, *aid.
The orange colored tank cost
$231,000, with another $557,900
being paid out for 13 miles of
pipe, fire hydrants and an under
ground tank with a capacity of
2,000,000 gallons.
“The federal goveinment con
tributed $484,000 to the total bill
of the project,” Boswell added.
“One effect of the water tower
and additional fire hydrants
would be to lower insurance
rates,” Boswell noted.
In the past the city has at
times been plagued with problems
of low water pressure because of
inadequate above-ground water
storage.
