(AP Wirephoto) New Water Tower Begins Operations The million-gallon new water tower for College Station began operations Wednesday. “This should handle the water needs of the city for the next 20 years,” Ran Boswell, College Station city manager, *aid. The orange colored tank cost $231,000, with another $557,900 being paid out for 13 miles of pipe, fire hydrants and an under ground tank with a capacity of 2,000,000 gallons. “The federal goveinment con tributed $484,000 to the total bill of the project,” Boswell added. “One effect of the water tower and additional fire hydrants would be to lower insurance rates,” Boswell noted. In the past the city has at times been plagued with problems of low water pressure because of inadequate above-ground water storage. Students Complete Metering School Seven students have completed a watt-hour metering school at the Electrical and Telephone Training Center of Texas A&M’s Research Annex. They include Jimmie Driskill of Coleman; Bernardo Gonzales Jr. and Edward D. Reed, Browns ville; Ben Powell, Greenville; Oran Reaves Jr., Denton, Charles E. Low and Chester A. Wilder, Quitman. The three-day course conducted by Ray Pantel and Arnold Mott of the Texas Engineering Exten sion Service provided participants essential information to handle metering problems.
